Guest guest
Percy, Don't worry about the delay in getting back to me. As upi cam see. I am quite behind. I had hernia surgery on Thursday but they wanted me in the hospital on Tuesday so they could monitor my coumadin. I hope I didn't come across as trying to make light of your situation. that was certainly not my intent. Are you under the care of a pain management doctor? If not, is there a way you could get in to see one? At first I didn't really like my pain doc as he seemed somewhat cavalier and uncaring. As I've gotten to know him, I see him in a different light. He is very caring and he has never hesitated to up my pain med temporarily when I am having a bad time. He does have a lot of rules and I had to sign paperwork agreeing to the rules. It was a bit demeaning but I know it is for my own good. I do believe your quality of life would be better if you could find a doctor that will put you on a long acting pain med maybe twice a day and then something for breakthrough pain. I don't know if I told you what I'm on. I take MS Contin 30 mg twice a day and then oxycodone 5 mg up to 4 times a day for breakthrough pain. since I just had surgery, he is letting me take up to 6 oxycontin a day for breakthrough pain for the first two weeks after surgery. His nurse told me if that was not enough to let her know and he might be willing to up it a little more for a few days. So far, the pain is being kept at a tolerable level with the MS Contin and 6 oxycodone a day. Knowing that I have pain med available sometimes seems to make me need the med less. I don't get stressed about not having pain med to control my pain, so I think that sometimes keeps the pain more tolerable. when I have pain, I take pain medicine. Now, when it gets to the point that the oral meds cannot keep the pain at a tolerable level, I go to the ER. I may be a wimp, but I am not willing to deal with pain above about a level 5 if it lasts for longer than a couple of hours. I hope you can find a doctor who will leave your past in the past and treat your pain. W
