Guest guest
Hope everyone is pretty much having a pain free holiday weekend. Just wondering how many of you may experience left sided pain?
Guest guest
Hi Tonia, My personal experience is consistent with left side pain. So much so that it is the benchmark I use to determine the beginnings of a CP attack. Characteristically, I get a pain exactly under the sternum (breastbone) that then travels right under the rib cage on the left side and can, given enough time, continue around the torso and up the back on the left. If I can determine by the pain and pain pattern soon enough and begin codeine soon enough and go to total rest soon enough I can minimize the extent of a CP attack. Or, at least I think I can. The main trick is early detection and prompt treatment and response. If I can " get " ahead of the attack, I can affect it's extent. This requires a very sensitive self awareness, and the ability to be able to take immediate steps. To feel an attack and then try to continue a normal activity, just to get it done, is to invite a major attack problem. One must have the latitude to be able to immediately change the course of one's daily life. Not an easy situation to put into place. I hope you are well today and have a Great Labor Day holiday Best wishes, Poncho - GA
Guest guest
Thanks so much for your response, Poncho. I have not been diagnosed w/CP. Have had every test imaginable w/no positive results. In July, 2000, I became very very sick after eating out one night and also had a few drinks. Felt like I had drank all nite. At that time I was sick to my stomach, had mid plus right and left sided pain mostly in the front but radiated to my back also. Doc did blood test, ultrasound, went to GI for endoscopy - everything normal. Finally in mid August, after being so sick this whole time and losing 15 lbs, new doc sent me in for a HIDA to see functioning of my gall bladder but my gall bladder would never show up on the scan. Said I had acute and cronic gall bladder disease and within 3 days I was having it removed. It took 3 hours for my surgery as surgeon said it was inflamed against my liver and he had to crave it away (I was told before hand that it would probably take only 45 min to an hour since I was so thin and had no previous surgeries). I thought I was going to completely recover and be able to be a Mom again. Well, I did get somewhat better. Nite sweats stopped and pain went from a 10 to about a 4. I kept going back to the doc and surgeon complaining telling them something was still wrong of course all my labs kept being completely normal. My surgeon decided to send me to a GI friend of his. He performed an ERCP and dilated my biliary duct (didn't mess w/my pancreas duct). He found to small stones and lots of yellow debris that was removed. After that, all the right sided pain was gone but I still to this day have the left. I went back to see the GI about a month later and he felt that my pain was now just muscular (sp?) sorry. I just quite going to the docs as I was beginning to even think maybe e I am imagining all this. The last couple of years I've tried to ignore the constant pain I have as I have 3 small children and a wonderful husband who were suffering as much as me. I did even quite my job of 13 years back in 2001 thinking maybe I needed a change and was stressed out. I do this day don't mention my pain even though I choke it up daily. I take no med's whatsoever. I'm so sorry but I get so scared at times not knowing what's wrong with me and no one to talk with anymore. Thanks for letting me vent here. Take care, Tonya
