Too many enzymes can cause the problem you describe. It is true that

lactase tablets or lactaid milk used if one is NOT truley lactose intolerant

can cause similar symptoms--which is why lactase is not one

of the enzymes included in pancreatic enzyme capsules. However, it

is not hard to have him tested for true lactose intolerance, nor to have

his stools tested for fat content and his pancreas, should this really be

needed, tested for enzyme levels. If this were my child, I would want a

pediatric gastroenterologist familiar with cf in on this one.

Best of luck to you and to your child, and love and hugs, too!

can to many enzymes make them go poop more frequent to or will it

only make them constipated. I think i have heard different opinions

on this and was just checking. My son was taking 3 pancrecarb ms-8

then we switched him form ensure to whole milk lactose free. he got

sick at the same time and ws not digesting well so we went up to 4.

He did okay but now that he is feeling better he is pooping up to 4

times a day and they are stinky not foul thought and they are

sometimes on the soft side or half formed half soft. I am wondering

if noe that he is better and not sick and on antibotics if 4 is to

many and weather on not we should go back down to 3. Or if maybe he

isn't lactose intolerance and maybe that is what is making him go

more and them being softer. I read that that can happen if you

really are not lactose intolerance and are drinking lactose free

milk. TIA

I'm sure my 18mo is lactose intolerant bc he has more frequent loose

stools after having milk. Even if he has more enzymes, the same thing

happens. We stick to Pediasure bc it's lactose free.

Noah used to drink Pediasure, but then he wasn't gaining so they

switched him to ensure plus. He was gaining but not eating anything.

Only drinking the ensure plus. So we switched him to lactose free

milk. But his dietition isn't sure if he is lactose intolerant. I

have brought him back down to 3 enzymes per meal and snack except for

an occasional time today when i forgot and gave him 4 before i

realized it and he has only gone poop 2 times today. So i am crossing

my fingers that, that did the trick. I am also going to try and

switch him to regular whole milk over the weekend and see how he

does. I am hoping that he can handle it. Cause as of now i am

buying 3 kids of milk. 2% for me and dh and whole milk for 11 yr old

cause she is small for her age and can use ll the help she can get.

Tand then the lactose free for him. Can't fit much esle on the top

shelf of the fridge. lol
