Guest guest
Hello Danny. I hope you are feeling better just now. Like you, I am desperately keen to hear of the experiences of other patients who have had the pancreas removed as I have been advised by my specialist to consider this now. Have you looked in the " Our Stories " section on this website? You can read some people's very positive experiences of total pancreatectomy there. I'd like to hear as much as possible though, before I decide to go ahead with this very major surgery! Like you, I'd like to know what sort of pain relief tends to follow and if the op is terribly debilitating, etc. etc. I suppose the difficulty is that every case is different and each patient responds differently. I'm scared of the surgery, to be honest, and I certainly don't want to do anything which could possibly make matters even worse! On the other hand, it would be wonderful to have no, or even just less pain, or less frequent pain. I don't think there are any guarantees, from what I've been told, and the surgery itself has some risks. Hope things go better for you while you're waiting to get more info. Have you actually been offered the pancreatectomy? Sorry if you've already said so and I've forgotten! I live in Liverpool, UK, by the way and would be having the surgery at the Liverpool Royal Hospital. I have been in touch with one patient who had a pancreatectomy two years ago (no islet cell transplant) and she says that, even though she is now diabetic, the situation is far better than the CP pain. She works full-time. Best wishes. Felicity Brown
