Hi Guys: Seven weeks ago today I had surgery. I weighed at the docs office

today and I

have lost 45 pounds since surgery. I can't believe it!

For you pre-ops who may be waffling:

I no longer have edema in my feet and legs

I no longer take arthritis meds for my arthritis. It's gone.

I no longer take blood pressure medication. My blood pressure is normal.

And all of the above took place from the time I got out of surgery. Never took

another

arthritis or blood pressure pill, never had an ache or pain or swelling since

surgery.

My clothes are hanging off me. It's amazing how big a difference 45 pounds makes

in

clothing. I have more energy than I've had for years. I have had NO depression

at all since

surgery..except for my fourth day out when I felt crappy and kept thinking " what

have I

done? " I have no feelings of deprivation...I can eat what I want if I want it

(but I don't want it

amazingly). I go up steps more than one at a time and there's a decided spring

in my

step..after only this amount of weight loss.

I wonder if Dr. R really really really deep in his heart where he really lives

knows that the

gratitude we express is more than words. I don't even have the words to thank

him..I don't

have the words to express what this surgery has meant to me after all these

years. I am truly

grateful.

For those on the fence...leap on over! The obsession to eat ruled my life for 50

years and

today it is gone!

Speaking of shoes..... do they shrink too? Also curious, will I have to

have my wedding band resized??? or do you think I should just get " new

ones " ie smaller each size... then I will have a collection for my toes

You don't wanna be in my shoes Debbie. I wear size 12WW.....LOL...I know what

you

meant and you will be in my shoes! It feels wonderful. I wish I could wave a

magic wand

over all of you dear friends here on this list and it could cure all your

insurance woes, PCP

woes, etc. and that it would instantly happen for all of you.

Reminds me when I was a kid and I would go to sleep wishing that I could wake up

in the

morning thin...then I'd check in the morning and nope..it didn't happen...and

yep, I was still

fat.

Took many years for this thin fantasy to come true!

Hey Joannie: I don't know if shoes shrink. Mine never have. But my darn

clothes...well,

that's another story. For years, over the summer, each and every thing I owned

shrunk and

by October when I went to try on my clothes from the previous winter..well they

were all too

tight to wear. I never did understand it. Also, during the winter the summer

things shrunk or is

that shrank...or shrinked...oh damn....got smaller.

I haven't worn my wedding band or engagement ring in about seven years. I'm

looking

forward to wearing jewelry again.

I do have some questions about the future though. I spend a lot of time

wondering. So here's

my first wonder:

When I lose weight and my panty hose rips, will I still have a bubble of blubber

buldging out

of the hole?

ok....here's another: When I lose weight, will I still have to put a pin in just

the right place

because the buttons on my blouse don't hold up when faced with the strain that a

few extra

inches in the bust area make? Or does the strain actually come from where the

arms are too

tight? Or is this phenomenon caused by " back fat " ? These are things I wonder

about.

....when I lose weight will my pants that are high waters now be low waters? And

just what is

it that I'll call my used to be high waters when they are now low waters?

....when I lose weight will my ear lobes shrink? And just how much weight in my

ear lobes will

I lose?

I wonder about a lot of things....

>

Wow, Flo, you are doing so good -- you really are melting away! I

know you are thrilled. I had to laugh when you said you wore a size

12WW shoe. Quite a few people have said that their shoe size does go

down and I'm hoping mine will also because I wear a 13M. When shoes

only went to a size 10, I wore a size 11 and now most shoes go to a

12 and I wear a 13 (I can wear a 12 in a sandal). Well, keep up the

superb melting -- we'll have to call you Frosty...that's it Frosty

Flo.

Pssst...don't tell me about shoe catalogs that carry large sizes -- I

think a dozen of them are already coming to my house.

In Dr. Rutledge's letter about me to the insurance company he said

that a 5'8 " person, medium frame, should weigh 128 lbs. The first

thing I thought was...I'm a large frame. Then I thought, if I

weighed 128 I could be Miss America. I would be ecstatic to weigh

175, not unhappy to weigh 200 (no Barbie wannabe here).

I want to ask what you think about this situation. My daughter could

use the surgery. She is 28, married 6 years and has not had any

children yet -- not that I haven't urged them on! What would be your

thoughts about having kids -- before or after surgery? At this

point, I am asking her to support me by attending clinic, reading the

website, etc. but I would be lying if I didn't say that I hope she

will want it for herself at some point. I know there have been a few

pregnancies but the Manual warns about nutritional problems, etc. On

the other hand, I weighed 275 when I got pregnant and ended up being

confined to bed for 6 weeks. I want grandkids and I also want my

daughter to have the opportunity to get skinny!

Yikes . My advice would be to just stay mum on the situation. This is one

decision

you really wouldn't want to make for someone else. My daughter has 3 and she

went though

all pregnancies very overweight and her veins show it. I've tried hard not to

sway her one

way or the other, but seeing the weight I'm losing is making her want it and

thus she's going

for it...but again, she has her family. Maybe your daughter could consult with

an OB-GYN

and see what he/she thought. You might want to see what le things. She had

the

surgery for the express purpose of getting pregnant later..I'm sure knowing

le, she

really looked into this before she made a decision.

Things are rolling right along . Before you know it, you'll be on this

side!

Frosty
