Guest guest
I've had three celiac plexus blocks performed in the past 1 1/2 years. Each were performed by a different physician, yet each time I was told there's a 50/50 chance it'll offer some relief. I received some level of relief from all three blocks. The first block resulted in 2 1/2 weeks of feeling absolutely wonderful! I had forgotten what it was like to feel good! We timed this procedure with a vacation, and it worked out great! By the third week, the pain came back quickly. I had another block performed several months later (had to restrict the number I was having done due to financial reasons... my insurance plan at that time wasn't very good). The second block offered a lesser degree of relief. It at least took the edge off and lasted about three months. This last block has lasted longer... again only taking the edge off. I'm grateful for that tho...it's better than nothing! I've been able to completely eliminate one of the pain killers, and significantly reduce another. With each block, it takes 1-2 weeks before you'll feel results, if this will work for you. They've also told me that although it may work one time, that doesn't increase your chances of it working again. It's a 50/50 chance EACH time. Would I recommend the blocks? Yes! Just ensure you have a physician who is very qualified to perform this. The nerve bundle that they are injecting is right next to your aorta. THat's why you're put completely out for this procedure. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions. Armantrout Indiana
