My son had his mickey for about a yr before jerking it out ! It oozed up

until the min he removed it and he is now 8 yrs old with a small little hole

in his belly and yes with the small lip of skin still sticking up.Don't worry

it's a little yucky but from what we were told it wil always ooze.

You can go to a health or homeopathic store and but a gel made of Comfrey it

will make the scar tissue grow normal no bumps or rough skin.My daughter had

a Mic-key for 4 +years .We took hers out on her 5th birthday. She had horrible

oozing and crusty rough growths the comfrey gel did take care of it every

time.Becky B.Mama to 8-2w/cf and Nana to 2

I have a question -- Adam had a fundo and mickey button placement

exactly one month ago tomorrow. (Feb 25th)

It is still kinda oozing from the side and it looks like a lip has

formed around the top half of the skin opening for the button. Is

this normal? By lip I mean that it appears as though some of the skin

has doubled back on itself outward.

I do have to say he is such a happy little bugger now. He put on

almost 1/2 a pound in the first week and a half after the surgery --

and that was when he wasn't interested in eating! He was only getting

his two cans of pediasure at night and we had to force enough down

him for the day to get his meds in!! (He was barely 14 pounds on the

day of surgery and was 1yr and 2 days old.)

Now he's eating so well. Yesterday Grandpa gave him a puffy cheetos.

I wish I could have taken his picture as he looked that thing over

and started nibbling at it!

Hi Crystal,

My daughter has had a MicKey for over 2 yrs. When she first got it she had some

oozing but no lip on the skin. have you been given stomahesive? They say to

watch out for the skin growing up the stem of the mickey but I don't know about

a lip. Try to keep it dry so it doesn't get infected. We use nystatin cream

(Rx) and a gauze pad when it is infected or oozing. I would check with the doc

about the lip though.

Crystal,

The lip which has formed around the top sounds like it might be a

granuloma. Basically, it's tender scar tissue (granulation) which should

be removed. We had major problems with this with Emma. We had to take

her in to have it removed several times. They used silver nitrate to

cauterize it. The last time, it was real bad as any time any pressure

was put on it, it would start to openly bleed (seeping through her shirt

and onto her pants) and was very tender. She cried anytime we tried to

touch it for any reason (it took a while to get to this point). Finally,

our GI nurse had us use a steriod cream primarily used by psioriosis

patients and we applied it directly to the granuloma only and this made

it go away and it hasn't come back since. If this hadn't worked, they

were going to have us use the silver nitrate at home ourselves which I

really didn't want to do. Anyway, it definately sounds like a granuloma.

You should call his GI doctor or whoever was responsible for having the

tube put in and let them know he has a granuloma that needs removed.

Since we got rid of her granuloma using the steriod cream, Emma's site

looks great. She has absolutely no oozing and it pretty much looks like

skin with a hole in at this point. She got hers placed on April 15th

last year. I hope this helps.

Hi Crystal,

What you're describing sounds like granulated tissue.

Our son's Mic-key site does the same thing and we

have to use silver nitrate sticks on it, which

are messy and look horrible but do the trick. Others

have had good response with steroid creams (though

Mick's site is stubborn and doesn't respond to them).

Talk to your GI doc and see if he can prescribe a

cream. If that doesn't work, he might want to try

the silver nitrate sticks.

Good luck!
