Guest guest
Yes, I agree also. I had several, several celiac plexis blocks done way-back-in-the-day, sometime in 95. I also had the block done, can't remember the name, where they try to " kill " the nerve with alcohol, I think? The most relief I ever had was 2 weeks. The doctor told me the nerve, somehow beyond his belief, grew back. Go figure. So, I guess if they kill it or remove the nerve completely it always comes back to haunt us! I did see Dr. , a very kind surgeon at IU to have the nerve cut, where they go in threw my back, colapse my lung & find the right nerve & cut it. My first question was....what if you cut the wrong nerve? He didn't think I was very funny, he is a very nice guy, I really liked him, but he didn't think my humor was funny at all. Anyways, he gave me something like a 25% chance that it would even work because all of the other blocks never did much for me. So I politly thanked the nice doctor & came back home to Ohio. Honestly, I did have the procedure scheduled twice, but chickened out both times......25% wasn't enough for me. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it! Hope everyone is doing as well as they can. Lots of Hugs, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I agree with you 100%. Each of our bodies are different and our level of illness varys. I had this " block " performed around 15 years ago and got little to no relief. however I even went on step further and have what was called a Thoracic Sympathectomy where the nerve(s) associated with pancreatic pain was removed completely. This afforded me relief for about 6 months until the nerve(s) grew back! This was news to me as I had no idea that this could happen and my doctor at the time didn't warn me of this potential eventuality. I do hope whatever you chose to do works better for you than it did for me. Andre'
Guest guest
I am a newbie here and I have a question. I have had 2 celiac plexis blocks in the past with poor results. Most frightening was approx 10 days after the first one I developed a telescoping of my small intestine with resulting obstruction and surgery to correct. After the second block I got a partial obstruction in the same area of the small bowel which resolved on its own. My past surgery for chronic pancreatitis is a subtotal pancreatectomy with roux-n-y jejunectomy. Basically I just have a tiny piece of pancreas remaining which is attached to my small intestine. Now at my last appointment with the pain doc, it was suggested to try another block. My pain doc does not believe the block caused the obstruction. My GI doc is unsure, and doesn't want to take any chances. I certainly don't want to end up in the hospital after a third block with another obstruction. Has this happened to anyone else? What is the likelyhood of the block causing this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Satch
