Guest guest
Hello, I wanted to follow up on the art project, with information about the Progress on Pain Writer's Project. This is not a literary contest on writing skills. The purpose of this project is to encourage people with chronic pain to submit their own stories. This project then encourages anyone who works in the public eye and is in a position to depict pain to use this project to learn what the reality of chronic pain is related to a specific disease. SO....take the situation with ER that many of us think depicts Pancreatitis in the wrong light. If they would use this project as a research tool, (and we would submit our own stories of living with chronic pain), the goal would be a more truthful representation. This is an educational grant project obtained because so many people's learned behavior comes from media. I think it is cool and encourage everyone to participate. Remember the focus of the project is pain, which isn't hard, but also make sure they understand what Pancreatitis is. I have posted the information below. Karyn E. , RN, Exec. Director, PAI *http://www.pancassociation.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PROGRESS ON PAIN WRITERS PROJECT COMPELLING STORIES INVOLVING CHRONIC PAIN AND ITS RELIEF .. What We Do Progress on Pain works with creative people in film and television to encourage accurate depiction of severe pain, its consequences and the modern techniques of pain management. We provide information and access to leaders in medical, pharmaceutical and alternative pain management and sponsor briefings for writers and producers. Who We Are Progress on Pain is an educational activity of the Mayday Fund, a private, New York foundation dedicated to the alleviation of the incidence, degree and consequence of human physical pain. Why We Do This Research tells us a large percentage of Americans get much of their health care information from television and film. Some people claim entertainment media have encouraged them to inform others and to take action regarding their own health care. Pain is misunderstood by the public, physicians and other caregivers. The myths about pain and pain management need to be countered with the facts, and all Americans should know about new pain management techniques.
