Keep in mind the following: Children with CF are expected to consume at least 20% more calories and protein than their non-CF peers. Ensuring an adequate intake of calories and essential fatty acids is critical. Lung infections also increase the metabolic need for calories, driving up the required calorie intake as much as 50% above the usual daily requirements.
