a,

I usually end up going to the ER when I have an acute

attack, mainly because mine seem to occur late at night or

real early morning (before 6 am). My enzymes are not

elevated anymore because I am at end-stage chronic

pancreatitis. My pancreas is so damaged now that it cannot

produce enzymnes anymore. The Hopkin's GI website

states that this can happen with people who have chronic

pancreatitis. http://hopkins-gi.org

Do a search on pancreatitis and in the chronic pancreatitis

section, under diagnosis, in the biochemical measurement

section it's the first sentence.

paula,

I usually wait until the pain is unbearable before I go to the ER,

used to be only for the reason that by then my amylase & lipase

levels would have surely risen and the doctors would admit me to

treat my pain..

But now I have my old doctor back, and a letter from my family

doctor and have been told I will be admitted even if my levels are

in normal limits.
