Guest guest
Last night I went to a meeting and heard a chiropractor talk about what they do. During the evening some of the people at the meeting were explaining that they had utilised chiropractors services and had great results. One woman explained that it has helped her with chest infections and sinus problems. Since Ainslie has trouble with polyps and psuedo in the sinuses and she is getting them cleaned out 2nd April I approached this chiropractor to ask if she could be of help. She can't help with the polyps but could poosibly help keep the sinus passages open and to help the body fight the pseudo. I have never utilised the help of a chiropractor, I'm not totally sceptical, just wary of wasting my money. Guest guest
And you should be wary. It has been my experience, both first hand, with SEVERAL family members, and with a few friends, that seeing a chiropractor makes you feel better on the surface, and then can cause a lifetime of back injuries. I saw several different ones, for a back injury. Found a one with a great reputation..etc...and saw him for a few months..I got NO better, and was scheduled several times a week...then my uncle...and some friends told me STOP.. I hurt like blazes for about two weeks..and then completely RECOVERED. No sinus headaches anymore, no back pain. This is just my experience and that of 7 other people that I can think of,...off hand. Guest guest
My brother is a chiropractor and I worked for him for 10 years. I've never had me or my sons adjusted. The old saying, if it's not broke don't fix it, I guess. One thing I want to say is if you look into a chiropractor, make sure it is one that deals with children and make sure they are the type that really believes in what they do and they really want to help. Some chiropractors will just crack you until your 12 healthcare approved visits are complete then coincidently discharge you when insurance runs out. I'm skeptical about them. And I worked for one. mom of 2 w/cf
Guest guest
Terri, I'm a little skeptical about a chiropractor's ability to " keep the sinuses open. " But I'm not discounting it if one treatment works for one person. Many years ago, there was a young boy in our town who had CF. On a couple of occasions his mom took him to a chiropractor (the same chiropractor I used) because he'd always pop a rib out of place after violent coughing spells. The chiro could get it back into place. And a few years ago I met a woman whose husband is a chiropractor on the eastern US coast. He had several young adult patients with CF. According to the woman, these people felt better after adjustments. Several years ago, after a really nasty case of whiplash I went to a chiropractor. I knew and trusted him -- his wife and father-in-law were also in the practice, but this guy was the only one strong enought to realign my stubborn neck and hips. I had to see him 2-3 times a week, and believe me, I really needed those sessions. But eventually as I got better, the sessions hurt more than they helped. For the past several years I've used massage therapy with better results. There are still times that I need the strong arm of a chiro, but I don't let him " snap " my neck. I read in some people, sudden manipulation of the neck can cause a mini stroke. But there are other manuevers such as lying on your side and twisting the hips or popping the back that I really need. Anyway, if you decide to go with a chiro, like suggested, find one you can trust and one that is familiar with the physiology of a child's growing body. But you might really consider learning massage therapy or taking your child to a certified massage therapist. There are sinus cavities throughout your body -- not just your face -- and a certified massage therapist knows anatomy and physiology. Besides, massage therapy is very relaxing and healing; it's a good way to teach your child early about stress reduction and stress management. A good massage will limber you up, relax you, and ease muscle pain and spasms caused by coughing spells. Kim Last night I went to a meeting and heard a chiropractor talk about what they do. Guest guest
Cody was having problems with back pain, and I had noticed that as I looked at his spine (which, since he is SOOOOOO skinny, sticks WAY out!!) that it was like some of his vertebrae were " missing " --no lumps where they should be. Mark took him with at his next appt., and the chiropractor took a look at his back before he did anything at all. He had his chart in his hand, but before he read it and was aware of Cody's CF, he pointed on Cody's back and said " This spot affects lung function, this one affects pancreatic function, and this one can affect sinus function " . Then Mark looked at him and said " Wow--he has CF, and all those things cause problems with him!! " The chiropractor popped Cody's back, and had him stand up, and Cody looked at Mark, bent side to side, took a deep breath, and said " Hey, I can breathe good now! " This was a big surprise for me, actually. I did notice for awhile afterwards though that he could run for longer distances, he didn't have any colds or anything for a LONG time, and his sinuses cleared up a bit--to the level that he quit snoring at least (still has the polyps, of course). He is going in again probably next week. Maybe then he will start feeling better again!
