Welcome Denny,

Glad you found this board but I'm sorry for your reason for being here.

Please keep on the board, and check out all aspects of the information

available here. From Holland, I don't know how the screens work for you but we

have

posted in a permanent way many items of interest associated with the board

and it's topic. Items like diet, treatment, stories of the conditions of

individuals, doctor lists, etc.

If you can find them, very good, if not keep reading every day and there will

be a link for the site sooner or later.

As for now, avoid alcohol, eliminate smoking, I find a diet high in complex

carbohydrates and low in fat to help, and I find taking pancreatic emzynes very

helpful. However, we all know we are all a little different and seem to

respond to different treatments. As our leader Karyn says " sometimes it's a

matter

of trial and error "

Best wishes, Poncho - Georgia USA

Thanks for your advice and concern Poncho.

Letting off booze was no problem at all. Drinking is boxed in small

time spans like watching a movie or socializing. And I can handle

those moments with simple orange juice or chocolate milk

too....Especially home made warm chocolate milk (with lots of cacao)

seem to work OK with me.

Also herbal tea like camilla is very relaxing and sooths the stomach

a little. Maybe someone else has something familiar with other

<replacements>.

Oh, just for the record, I tried cannabis too for relaxation. But I

experienced trouble in getting the right dosis. The few times I did

I just went too stoned to keep my eyes opened (did gave me a good

night rest though) or the dosis was too small to have any soothing

effect. And hey, how do one explains to his children what odor is

hanging in the home office. So I am preaching not to do this, it

just does´nt work unless it is being prescripted by a doctor in

tablet form (which by now is an accepted form of treatment for pain

in Holland). However, my doctor figured it was not needed yet in my

stage of illness. I´ll trust him on his judgement.

Quitting smoking.... That is very hard. I have been smoking since I

was 13 or so...And smoking is an all day excercise. Begins

immediatly after breakfast (or even at night when sleep is not

catching) until bedtime.

My work, I am a self employed software engineer, is rather

demanding. Demanding in a way that when working on a project the

mind goes in high tempo and needs to be <relaxed> at times to pull

back for another spin. And that is where tobacco has become rather

crucial, at least in my case.

I dont know whether I´ll be able to overcome tobacco just as easy

as

I did on booze. But, as I said before, what has to be done has to be

done. Maybe popsickles will work out ?

Today I have been able to eat solid food for the first time in two

weeks. Very little, but it is yet another milestone. But I´m

afraid

it is only temporary.

The pain was less today too. I hope it stays that way because

tomorrow I will need to visit a customer. Means a drive of 70Km so I

am not allowed to use codeine. Codeine affects driving capabilities

I have been told.

I will keep the group updated with my experiences. Maybe they are of

help to others. And it´s a way of writing off agony too I

guess.....

Kind regards, Danny.
