Bert you are so informed and explain different illnesses to the pancreas so

well. Won't you please reconsider and come to the symposium? My husband and I

will be there and would love to meet you and your wife. Shirley

Hello,

There is a significant difference between the two procedures. A

sphincterotomy takes place endoscopically and is nothing more than

snipping the sphincter itself so that it can't " slam shut " . In order

to facilitate healing the doctor will place a stent, typically one

designed to fall out on its own after a couple of weeks.

A sphincteroplasty is surgery (open or laproscopic) that opens up the

major and/or minor papilla.

Both procedures have the same goal, to widen the passageway to

faciliate drainage and prevent blockage, or lessen the chances of

spasms blocking off the duct.

thanks,

Bert

That is so very kind of you to say! Thank you.

I would love to come to the symposium but I work for Miami University

in Oxford, OH as a computer analyst. Late August is our busiest time

of the year -- it is when all the students move up, and try to get

connected to the network and consume services. Fall startup is the one

time of the year when I just can't miss work if I can help it. And

considering I had to take off 12 weeks of medical leave for my

surgery, I can't imagine asking for two more days off.

See ya,

Bert

Thanks Bert! At least I know now what I had - a sphincterotomy. However, the

doctor didn't put in a stent, even though he said the duct was so small he could

hardly find it. Wonder why. I'll have to ask him. - Anita
