Maybe Karyn might know where it is. It needs some work before the symposium.

What are you doing up also. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Couldn't sleep

while in bed but put me at the pc and I am so sleepy. Shirley

Can't sleep......after I went to the ER last week...I basically slept for 3

days and it messed up my sleeping cycle...although, I tend to be a night owl

anyway. Hope you can get some sleep

Shirley and Mark,

Yuck Mark...ERs. Everytime I have had to go to the ER I ended up

getting stuck there for 12-24 hours before a bed would open up and

then for sure my sleep pattern would be destroyed. I feel for ya Mark.

Shirley, my night owlness comes from the fact that here I am off from

work recovering from the surgery. And gradually my laziness has gotten

me off my normal sleep schedule cuz I keep staying up late watching

moves on cable and surfin the web. And playing games...

Its 6AM and time for bed!

G'nite!

Bert

Thanks Mark. I am a night owl also. I like to stay up late and sleep late

in the morning. Can't always do that though and then the day after staying up

late I am a zombie. Shirley

Oh Bert, I know your pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went off line around 4 or 4:30

AM but then went to bed and couldn't sleep. I finally took ativan and now I am

sooooooooooo sleepy. I want to go back to bed so badly but I will try to

stay awake so possibly I will be sleepy tonight. I have tried this many times

and come night time I am worse off since I lost sleep the night before and

stayed awake the next day hoping I could sleep that night but NO couldn't sleep

again. My husband falls asleep in his chair watching TV around 9 or 10 and then

he goes to bed after the news which he wakes up for to hear the weather.

There I am wide awake needing some zzzzzzzzzzzzzz and he is sawing logs. IT'S

NOT

FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is so balanced and I am so unraveled. lolololol

I need to stay away from my PC at night since that keys me up and then I for

sure can't sleep. Oh well, it could be a lot worse.

Bert, did you read Staci's e-mail. I am so concerned for her. It doesn't

make sense for her to have so much of her pancreas removed. What if she

continues to have pain. Staci is such a dear sweet girl. I wish she could talk

with

Dr. Sutherland. Shirley

Hi Shirley and all,

~~~Bert, did you read Staci's e-mail. I am so concerned for her. It
Shirley I have read Staci's e-mail. I feel the same concern you do.
Since you and I have had the total panc. surgery we are biased towards
a different kind of surgical approach for the treatment of
pancreatitis. The selling point of the surgery we had is based on
pointing out the high failure rate of other kinds of pancreas
surgeries leaving the patient in a state that requires even more
surgery. Our procedure's success is closely related to having as
intact a pancreas as possible.
If a less invasive surgery really has a high chance of solving the
problem forever than that is what someone should do I think. But the
problem I see is that huge numbers of people that have a puestow,
whipple, distal, this, that, the other surgery, etc, end up within a
few years or less having attacks again. We know with the total panc.
that your problem is solved. But with the total panc. you put yourself
at risk for surgical complications more severe than with the other
surgeries, and there is always a chance of the islet cells failing to
work.
That is why, like you suggested, Staci should really try to talk to
Dr. Sutherland, her own doctors, and people that have had the various
surgeries in order to really scrutinize her options.
I wish everyone out there happiness,
Bert
