Guest guest
, We were always told not to give anything with Guafisen in it? Re: need advice le, My daughter Emma who is 2 1/2 years old has had cold after cold this winter. Most of them have basically been that her nose just runs and runs. The last one which she just got over a week ago, she had a cough with as well which definately had me concerned. Basically, I gave her a decongestant which did little if anything but I figured I can't see what it is doing in the lungs so I gave it to her anyway. I figured it couldn't hurt. I made sure the decongestant had Guaifenesin as it's active ingredient which I have heard is good for kids with CF. We also increased her CPT to three times a day and her nebulizer treatments as well. On those days when her nose was particularly bad, I increased the number of neb treatments to four. We then basically just waited. It lasted a full two weeks before it subsided but I could tell around ten days that it was getting better. If it hadn't, I would have contacted her CF center and described the symptoms. At that point, they probably would have put her on a antibiotic. Basically this is what I do everytime she gets a cold. I don't call until it's been hanging around a while and doesn't seem to be going away. If her symptoms were really bad, I would obviously call sooner but with no fever, a minor cough and mainly a runny nose, I didn't see the need. If the runny nose was green or yellow in color or if it had a smell to it, I would have called as well. It's no fun watching them when they have a cold but sometimes you just have to do what you can and then see what happens. Our CF center actually has published quidelines on when you should call. I hope this helps. Good luck tomorrow. - mom to Emma 2 1/2 years old w/cf and reflux and Isabelle 4 1/2 years old wo/cf ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Guest guest
Hi all, Just my 2 cents here. I give Children's Sudafed, just for runny noses, not with a cough suppressant. I dries up the nose but still lets him cough out the junk. Have a great day. Take care, , mommy of 4, 3 wcf, a g-tube and his wonderful personality, ,18, and she now has her own car, Caleb, 8 and getting too old to fast, and , 7, my little artist. Guest guest
Why? Instead of being a cough surpressant it is an expectorant that helps loosen the mucus and make it easier to cough up. Guest guest
My understanding is that Sudafed is a decongestant that dries out mucous membranes .... not just in the nose. Therefore, it would seem that it could dry/thicken the mucous in the rest of respiratory system as well. M Re: MARIA > Hi all, > > Just my 2 cents here.
