Guest guest
Is there any kind of link between stress and pancreatitis? It seems to me that I have flareups when I'm stressed. I know for me stress brings out strange bouts of weird illness and I was wondering if stress could effect the pancreas as well. I've been stressed quite a bit this year and have been hospitalized 4 times already this year. Thanks, Denice
Guest guest
Denice, yes, Stress can cause pancreatitis, at least, according to my doctors it can. I have had several small flareups and one major attack caused by stress. It's not easy trying to avoid stress, but you are not alone in it causing pancreas problems. Guest guest
Dear Denice: Most definitely! Stress can cause a flare up of pancreatitis. Also, the body does not differentiate between " good " stress and " bad " stress. So if you are undergoing changes that are wonderful and happy, etc. etc. that can bring on a flare. For instance, my son got married two years ago. I felt wonderful, everything going fine, and bang! Brought on a major attack. Stress should be at the top of the list as triggers really. Hope this helps. Kaye NC
Guest guest
Hello, I do not think there is much in the medical literature on this but simply ask any person who suffers from pancreatitis (you have ehehe) and you will quickly learn that there is a direct relationship between increased stress and increased attacks. It certainly is not the cause for the pancreatitis itself -- I can't imagine stress alone could cause a first attack. But certainly once you are prone to attacks, stress can start the enzymatic cascades that will trigger an attack. From my experience I know this is true. Heart rate increases; BP increases; hormones fluctuate; respirations are inconsistent. Stress breeds stress; much like those dust bunnies under our couches. Life has an uncanny way of throwing things just out our reach or; below the belt. I am certainly not the best one to ask about how to handle stress. But yes it can make it difficult to heal or be healed; and if you have an achilles heal; that is one place it will show itself physically. Guest guest
Kind of becomes a vicious cycle, doesn't it?! Stress from the pain and from being broke due to medical bills and then pain from the stress and more medical bills....... !!
