Guest guest
Smoldering acute pancreatitis is a term Will's doctor used, although I am uncertain if it was the definitive diagnosis(I think they are uncertain at this point). As I mentioned in posts from Boston Children's, they have inserted a G-J tube in and have him on Nutren 1. They are also allowing a limited oral diet of non fat/low fat foods(soft textured due to other issues) I wondered if there were any good links for smoldering pancreatitis. Also, I am wondering how to go about advancing Will's diet when the time comes. How soon do you experience a pain reaction to a food too high in fat content? How many fat grams do you allow yourself per meal or snack? Will has been off fat for about 2 weeks now, a very limited oral diet combined with his formula. NO PAIN!!!! Of course, he is missing his little debbie snacks horribly!(so I guess there is a bit of pain!) Thanks! Beth
Guest guest
Beth, If you don't mind me sending you some abstracts and articles off board, I can send you several research materials I have on smoldering pancreatitis. They are too large to send as attachments to the board. Everyone's tolerance to fat is different, but most of us tend to try to consume 20 grams or less of fat per day, with no more than 5-8 per meal or snack. You might start Will off on baby food desserts, fruits and vegetables, to see if he can tolerate those without too much discomfort. Everyone varies on how soon they get a pain reaction from food, too, I think. All I can comment on is my personal experience and usually if it's something that bothers me, I feel discomfort within half an hour of eating. I hope this helps. I'll send all the medical articles a little later this evening. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SE & SW Regional Rep. PAI, Intl.
