Hi Lynn - This will sound really dumb, but I have no idea what the difference is

between sphincterotomy and sphincteroplasty. I had 5 ERCPs done to have my bile

duct cut due to SOD and I also had an endoscopic procedure to have my pancreatic

duct cut due to pancreas divisum. Do you know if these are sphincteroplastys or

sphincterotomys, or both? Thanks! Anita

Hello!! I had the sphincteroplasty done to my bile duct in Feb 2003. I had

had 2 previous sphincterotomies and had developed scar tissue that grew inward

so they did not want to do another sphincterotomy. I have SOD along with

pancreatitis. I would be glad to answer any of your questions or help you the

best that I can. You can either email me direct @ LynnC430@... or you can

post your question here and I will reply.

---A surgical sphincteroplasty is a type of reconstruction of the

sphincter using mucosal lining from the duodenum.
