I found the nursing staff there to be an insult to the doctors who are trying to do their job with dignity. Shirley

I had two very bad blood infections at once that kept me in UC for 23 days and the nurses left a lot to be desired. A doctor I had there also commented on the bad nursing. Thanks Bert, Shirley --- I received the best care ever during my trip for the pancreatectomy. Nursing, pain management, anesthesia, surgeons and medical docs, patient care assistants, nutrition, everyone. I was treated like a dignitary. My home was in the critical care pavilion, on the 9th floor, which is a lot like staying in a resort hotel. I suspect I got the red carpet treatment because these research based procedures have lots of grant moneys, and the critical care pavilion probably has its own budget line and so on. The staff are thrilled to do what they do, they get treated like gold, and it is just a real model that should be looked up to. I don't think you can compare that with a normal admission. Its like two totally different worlds. My stays on medical floors for acute pancreatitis were just miserable compared to the care of the critical care pavilion. Nursing care generally was poor. Some of the worst nursing I have ever been subjected to. I only continued going to UC for ER visits because I was getting worked up for the surgery there. Prior to being a candidate I went to Good Sam. for my ER visits and received much better nursing care. It is mind boggling to think there can be such excellent care and such poor care just floors apart. See ya, Bert
