Guest guest
Hi all, I have chronic CP and SOD. I have been on Hydrocodone for 2 1/2 years. When I went to the hospital the other day they finally decided that I needed something stronger for my pain. I now wear a Duragesic 50 patch and take Percocet and Compazine for nausea. I have read before from all you wonderful people that some pain meds can cause the sphincter to spasm. Does anyone know if Hydrocodone can cause this? The reason I ask is because this morning I was having some mild pain so I decided to take one tablet of Hydrocodone instead of the Percocet and now I have extreme pain and nausea!! Just thought I would ask the group because everyone is so knowledgeable here. Thanks.
Guest guest
, I don't have SOD, but I've listened to many others that do. To my best knowledge, it's morphine that causes the SOD spasms. I've not heard that about Hydrocodone. I would imagine it would have bothered you earlier, since you took it for over 2 years before you switched to Percocet. What dose of Hydrocodone were you taking, and what is the new dose of Percocet? I have cut Percocet tablets in half (I'm on 10/325's) sometimes when I felt I didn't need the stronger dosage, thus getting only 5 mg. instead. If you've got extreme pain and nausea, I suspect that you're having more of an extreme episode than you thought initially, and not that the Hydrocodone is at fault. Guest guest
I have been told by a few doctors and a couple of nurses that yes Hydrocodone can cause spasms of the Sphincter of Oddi.
