Guest guest
I haven't posted in a while, but have appreciated all the information, questions and comments from everybody. I especially thank Mark Armstrong for all the data and links. Thank you, Karyn and others, for the loving, supportive responses that make all of us feel better. Since one documented hospitalization for acute pancreatitis in 2001, my a & l enzymes have not been elevated, when I know positively it is pancreatitis (pain, abdominal swelling, gas, etc.) The last episode was the first part of April, for about 5 days. I keep a daily food/symptom diary, so I can look back at what might have triggered an episode - but not this time. It wasn't food and it wasn't stress. And without blood work backing me up (perfectly normal), all I have are symptoms to tell the doctor about. And many of you know just how likely the doctor will pay attention to what I say, without lab results... My question to the board is: I have a complete physical scheduled for July 30th. What tests do I want done? From what I have learned, if the a & l are not elevated, I have lost some undetermined amount of pancreatic function. What's the best test for that? Non-invasive, if possible. Also from what I have learned on the board and other research, I want a glucometer to be able to test blood sugar at home. How would I ask for that from the doctor to get a positive response? I mean, how would you word a request? Any suggestions and recommendations are much appreciated. Hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful day (here in Hawaii, it may be easier!) Aloha, Chris
