Hi ,

First of all let me say to you I'm so sorry you are having so many

problems with these dern ER doctors! And I still don't understand

why our own doctors won't give you enough pain meds to help you! It

really angers me when they tell us that since our labs come back

normal, then there isn't a thing wrong. The same thing happens to me

all the time! I think everyone of us have gone through the same thing

during this battle with this illness. I hate it! I hate it! I hate

it! And it makes me down right angry that we have to fight with all

we've got just to be listened to! Just don't give up, hon! Keep

fighting until you get what you need! I know its hard, and it is

hard for me to do expecially. Lily has to give me lots of pushes to

make me even call the doctor! You are in my thoughts & prayers.

Lots of Hugs,

Hi all,

I feel like I am going to explode lately. My last to visits to the

ER with pain have shown my amylase and lipase to both be normal, and

both times I've been sent home saying that everything is fine. I

don't have decent pain medicine to cope with the pain at home, my

doctor still hasn't returned my call and am still having an attack

after 24 hours...It really is infuriating..not to mention that the

doctors in the ER probably think I'm just there for a narcotic fix..

arghhhhhhhhhhhh...gets me so mad all I want to do is cry

Hi ! I've finally started carrying a letter written by my doc that

says my lipase and amylase probably won't be elevated but that I still get acute

pancreatitis, that I need lots of heavy duty pain meds, and that I'm not a

substance abuser. He also has left instructions in his office that they are to

give me a shot of Demerol if I ever need it and also that if I call and say I

need to be admitted to the hospital they arrange it and I bypass the ER. It

might help to ask your doc to do all of the above and hopefully he will be as

understanding and empathetic as mine is. All my best - Anita

P.S. I went thru all the same stuff as you have which is why I now have the

letter and all of the agreements.

Hi Anita,

One of my admitting doctors at the local hospital told me that if it

was during business hours, to call his office and they would bypass

the ER and give me pain meds straight away...But most of my attacks

happen during the night or on the one day they close at lunch time

for the rest of that day. Only once have I had an attack that I was

able to go to the doctor's office. That doctor was off for a week

and I had to see another doctor. She and my own Family doctor were

excellent, getting me admitted straight away, but the doctor at the

hospital wouldn't give me pain meds until they could get blood from

me, and she told me I should have gone through the ER and they could

have done all of this. If I had gone to the ER..I know I would have

gotten my pain meds a lot quicker in the end.

I had just begun to wonder about getting a letter from my doctor to

show the ER doctors, but dismissed this in my own mind that they

wouldn't accept it, probably think that I wrote it myself. It's good

to see that it can be done, and I shall ask for one today. I have

also decided to go back to my old GI. I stopped seeing him because

my visits kept getting cancelled, but I know he will have me

admitted with or without high levels if I go to the hospital he

works at.

Thanks,

Great! I'm so glad you decided to get the letter. And also to go back to a

doctor who will work with you more. Even with your other doc though, there has

to be a doctor on call 24 hrs. a day and weekends at his/her office. So if your

doc informed the other ones to just arrange for your admission and call in

orders for pain meds if you call them, that should technically work. It does

for me, but maybe I just got lucky. I know that there are alot of docs who

aren't so understanding and have had my share of those too. Best wishes and

hope that pain stays controlled - Anita
