Guest guest
Applesuace and anything else that is aicidic, i.e. ketchup, bbq sauce are good to mix the enzymes with. The enzymes are produced with an enteric coating on them so the stomache acid does not break them down. The enzyme coating is broken down in the alkaline environment of the intestine area by the pancreas. This is where a normal person's body would send out its own enzymes to break down the food. So, perhaps something else like lemon curd, or smashed fresh fruit would work too. When Nick was young and we were out at say Mcs or Carls Jr. I would sprinkle his enzymes in a teaspoon full of ketchup or in a teaspoon full of coke. If we were at tace Bell, nick would like them sprinkled on the hot sauce. I hope this will give you all some other options. By the way, Nick still enjoys eating all foods we used to sprinkle his enzymes on. Amber, Nick's mom
Guest guest
Hello I am new to the group. I was just browsing through and saw how some people are adding their enzymes to pudding. Well my son is on the ultrase and his doctor said that it couldn't be added to anything with milk in it. So I don't know what kind you or your kids are on but you might want to double check it. thanks mommy to austin wcf
Guest guest
Our drs told us appelsauce only at first, but now they say to be carfeul of milk or banannas because the coating gets broken down. The nutrionist said puddings and yougurts are ok, but I usually use fruits and applesauces because I have gotten so many mixed messages. le, mom of Chas (18 mos) wcf Re: enzymes with pudding??? Guest guest
The enteric coating is supposed to protect the beads inside the enzyme capsules from being destroyed by the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. The capsules can then pass safely to the more alkaline environment of the duodenum, where the enteric coating is dissolved. But often the stomach acid is so strong that the enteric coating is still destroyed before the capsule gets to the duodenum. So if you have high stomach acid or GERD, you wouldn't want to increase stomach acid by eating many low pH foods and beverages such as Coke, catsup, citrus fruits, etc. Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruit sauces, jams, jellies and fruit (not plain) yogurt are all pretty safe foods. You want to take enzymes with a food or beverage that has a pH less than 5.5 but remember, if you have a highly acidic stomach you don't want to take the enzymes with a highly acidic food. Here's a link to an FDA site showing the pH of some foods. You might want to print out the page. While it's good to take enzymes with foods less than a pH of 5.5, foods that have a greater pH are very healthy dietary choices. http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~comm/lacf-phs.html Kim Applesuace and anything else that is aicidic, i.e. ketchup, bbq sauce are good to mix the enzymes with. Guest guest
If you have a high stomache acid content, such as my Nick does, the docs may prescribe zantac or prilosec to help. Amber
