How about crafts such as paper mache, water colors, or making houses

with toothpicks or tongue depressers?

Or if you have a video camera, let them make their own news report

or " show " in their room. They can describe the equipment, talk about

their day, etc.

I am headed to a meeting so this is quickie,

I have found & send to many in the hospital . Managnifing glass. The

small hand held ones. They look at the veins, the plastic, the cookie on

try, the sheets , all EVERYTHING in room .It keeps them really

interested. As they get older , you can devise things to sort, pretend

then are lab folks. . Very inexpensive, I get some from Wal-Marts,

dollar store, office supply folks , even the optical shops (usually more

expensive, BUT they really work.

Also an item called silly putty. It is usually in an egg shapes plastic

container. Opened in middle (like the ones you can get to put candy in

for egg hunts. ) Anyway. It stays clean. Doesn't crumble-they can

flatten it & press on newspaper & it picks up picture print. . Reshape &

mix & picture goes away. they also do this over & over .OR they can

shape it as you would clay, but not the same mess.

If able .CLAY is a wonderful item. Hours of fun too., these are items

that can be kept clean & don't breed " bugs "

There are more, but I have to go ,Hope the meeting goes well. Be sure &

share with us after

LOVE & HUGS, GrandmomBEV

The two things that keeps my 5 year old distracted for hours at a

time are wooden building blocks and Gameboy.

Building blocks are easy to clean and inexpensive. Gameboy is more

expensive, but is mesmerizing to him and portable, so it's worth it

(especially on car trips, waiting at the dentist office, clinic

office, and other places where he has to sit, be fairly quiet, and

not touch every germ-coated surface in site!)

I don't know about other CFer's but my daughter is a creature of the night.

Often too tired to do much during the day and all the treatments she is

" wigged out " from. So she is up all night some times. Always has been.

For xmas, we got her a doll house and she will get up at nights and work on

it. Everyone in the family sends her stuff for it. Wall paper, paint,

furniture, people, ect. She loves it!

,

My son (no cf) is also 14 years old. He has always been a night

owl. He stays up all night on the weekends and all summer when there

is no school. He likes to have the house to himself. I guess that

he'll work the night shift when he grows up.

Gee I wonder if this is a CF thing . LOL ! My son who is only 8yrs old has

always been a " night owl " also. Eveb now he will stay up until 3 am if I let

him I always fall out first and he stays strong. Maybe it's all the meds that

give them so much stamina.
