Hi Robin....Let's see what I can do to help you out here...

My amylase and lipase levels are normal because of my elevated

triglycerides. The fact they are elevated makes the A/L levels appear

normal. Have the doctors ever checked your triglyceride levels when

you are in for the pain? There are good articles out there...type in

Triglycerides and pancreatitis and you should find several. Merck.com

has a section on it too.

My first panc attack in 1994 I went to the hospital for what I was

sure was a heart attack (MI) due to chest pressure and pain in my arm

and left shoulder blade...they quickly ruled that out, but then

started working on the gallbladder angle. I was sent home really

late at night and told to come back early in the morning since the

Ultrasound tech had just left for the evening....I had more blood

drawn in the morning...my A/L levels doubled overnight and still they

were only a tad high...but the ultrasound showed the pancreatitis and

I was admitted to the hospital where I was on IV fluids and NPO for

three days, then allowed clear liquids the last day and then

discharged since I tolerated them okay. My triglycerides were over

5,000 on admission but at some point they were up to 7,000!

As for the abdominal migraines: I have read about them...do a search

and you should find something on them. What I DO know is whenever I

have a panc attack I also end up with a migraine (in my head, not my

abdomen) and I've been told that isn't " normal " but then my doc who

is so sweet says " oh yes, this is *Jeannine* we're talking about! "

....he knows my body is a bit strange ! Recently I had to stop taking

Glucosamine/Chondroitin because it **caused** me to have intense knee

pain ! I've been off it for a few days now and they are getting

better ! Go figer...but this is how things happen with me...or the

time I was put on Zoloft...which is an antidepressant and it MADE me

depressed ! More than I was prior to being put on it !!

Did you have an ultrasound while in the hospital this time? How

would they know if you had a panc attack or not? Just based on your

A/L levels? Not always reliable !

Elavil does work for pain...but I don't know about acute pain...it is

given to those of us with Fibromyalgia for the chronic pain. It is

an antidepressant...the doctors are not necessarily saying you are

depressed, but the medicine can raise your serotonin in the brain and

reduced your pain perception....it's complicated. You can certainly

go back to the hospital and get copies of your records to take with

you to s Hopkins when you go next week. Your doctor there might

be very interested in what they had to say. Don't let them give you

the run-around, you are entitled to your records ! I always tell

everybody to keep a copy of all of their records...if you ever need

to file for Social Security you will already have the records and

won't have to hunt down doctors who aren't in practice anymore...

I hope I have answered some of your questions....Take care...Jeannine

(whose maiden name is , by the way ! And whose family is from New

England...)but I live in Washington State now.
