Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Thanks for the information...I've been reading some of the messages on this site, it's good to have people to talk to about this. My husband was on pancreatic enzymes while in the hospital, however they discontinued them before he left the hospital. He was put on a low fat diet when he left the hospital, then 3 weeks later his doctor told him to resume his normal diet. He seems to be bothered when he eats too much, not so much the fat content. I heard that " milk thistle " can help....have you heard of anything like that? He is taking multi-vitamins now. I did not know that the pseudocysts can fill back up. Is it possible for infections to occur when cysts are at 3cm? He has an appointment set up for Monday...any suggestions for what we should ask the doctor about...by the way, his doctor(PCP) is an internist, not a gastroenterologist...my husband and I were thinking of having him referred to one....any advice? Thanks.... ~Seher
Guest guest
Seher, My comments are spaced between yours. > My husband was on pancreatic enzymes while in the hospital, however they discontinued them before he left the hospital. I don't understand why they would discontinue the enzymes, nor why it would be recommended that he return to a normal diet, especially if his condtion has become chronic. Did the doctor give you any explanation for this? > I heard that " milk thistle " can help....have you heard of anything like that? He is taking multi-vitamins now. I have heard someone else mention milk thistle, but personally have no knowledge about nor experience with this herb. Perhaps someone else does. I take the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids; Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Methionine, B1, B6, B12, grapeseed extract, folic acid and magnesium. > I did not know that the pseudocysts can fill back up. Is it possible for infections to occur when cysts are at 3cm? I imagine infections would be possible at any size, but highly unlikely. > He has an appointment set up for Monday...any suggestions for what we should ask the doctor about...by the way, his doctor(PCP) is an internist, not a gastroenterologist...my husband and I were thinking of having him referred to one....any advice? I would definitely ask your PCP to recommend a gastroenterologist for further treatment. Your husband would probably benefit most from returning to the enzyme supplements and continuing a low fat diet. The specialist would also know the best course of action for monitoring the pseudocyst on a regular basis and any continuing care (including pain medication) that might be necessary for your husband as the condion progresses. Let us know how everything goes on Monday. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina Southeastern Representative PAI, Intl.
