We live in a culture of constant emphasis on weight LOSS--even by

some of the companies who sell us nutrients that help us to gain and

maintain weight. This was not so great an emphasis in the culture, nor

were so many women obsessed with moderate weight gain as now

when my middle daughter, just cheerfully ate like a horse, and was none

theless thinner than her cf sibling. Kim is just so right and I see this all

the time--in doctors' waiting rooms, laboratory waiting rooms, X-Ray

waiting rooms; the underweight ill child, cf or no, and the mother public

ly obsessing about weight gain. Thank you, Kim, for this post!

ly, having gained a ton (by my standards) since orthopaedic sur

gery myself, I carry every pound proudly, and I do hope that if it were a

health issue for me, that I would speak with my family about food positi

vely, and not negatively.
