Guest guest
Dear members, friends, family, supporters, and advocates, Dr. Sutherland will be the keynote speaker for the 4th Annual Symposium on Pancreatitis. Dr. Sutherland, is the president of the International Islet Cell Transplantation Association and is the Director of The University of Minnesota Transplant Program. The University of Minnesota has long been recognized worldwide as a pioneer and leader in aggressive and advanced treatment of diabetes through whole-organ pancreas transplantation and clinical islet cell transplantation. They are the home of the world's oldest, largest whole-organ pancreas transplant program, the world's first pancreas transplant (1966), living-donor pancreas transplant (1979), and first human islet cell transplant (1974).In 2000, we were the only American center that successfully performed clinical islet transplants. Dr. Sutherland has personally performed the Total Pancreatectomy and Islet Cell Transplant Surgery on so many of our own members. He has transformed lives. He is truly a modern day miracle worker. And, the Pancreatitis Association Intl., is truly blessed and honored to have him take the time to fly in for this occasion. He shared that the reason he is doing it is that he believes in what the PAI stands for and supports our mission. He lectures thousands of surgeons every year, but this is the only organization in the world that is reaching out to support, educate, and advocate persons whose lives have been affected by Pancreatitis and subsequently the life threatening complications of Diabetes. The success of his surgery depends on early recognition and intervention. This goal is being achieved through the services and programs of the PAI. he wants to support that. Seating is limited, but will be reserved for patients and family members first, before being opened to healthcare professionals. Let me know ASAP if you plan on attending this spectacular event. Additionally, part of the condition of his participation was based on the availability of having several of his past surgical patients attend to be part of the TP / ICT panel discussion held following his lecture. The lecture and panel will be on August 29, 2003. The full symposium dates are the 27, 28, 29. If you have had this surgery, by Dr. Sutherland or another of his trained surgeons, contact me ASAP about making arrangement to be here for this panel. I know that I won't have trouble filling seats with the medical school in Indianapolis. But, I would rather have the PAI members filling those seats. It is such a wonderful experience, especially this year. We have awesome speakers lined up. Nothing should get in anyone's way. When there is a will, there is a way. If this is important to you, the details will be figured out--transportation / housing / food / medications. We have incredible resources. You just have to decide if you want to come. Dr. Sutherland said it was important for him. He is flying in an hour before the lecture and panel, then flying out an hour later. Let's match that commitment. Guest guest
Karyn, I really wish I could attend this year, but my lawyer has advised me that if I travel, I risk jepoardizing my SSD case. Basically SSA thinks that if you can travel by plane, you can work and I cannot risk it. If, by some miracle, my case is approved before August, I'll find a way to get there. Until the, I'm stuck here. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional.
