,

I've had CP for almost 2 years. When I became very sick earlier

this year and was losing weight at a rapid pace, (2-3) pounds

each week), I was at one point diagnosed with bacterial

overgrowth by my doctor. It was the first time I had ever heard

mention of it on this site. I was in the midst of several troubling

pancreatic issues, though, which were later identified as type 1

brittle diabetes. Less than a week prior to my admission to the

hospital, when the diagnosis of DKA and IDDM was made, the

doctor said I had bacterial overgrowth and started me on an

aggressive regimen of antibiotics. I was supposed to take

Cipro, twice a day for two weeks and once a day for the third.

Tests were done in the hospital less than a week after I had

started the Cipro, and the test for bacteria showed only " trace "

amounts of bacteria.

What has the doctor recommended for you, and what are your

symptoms?

I'm sorry you had to seek us out for the obvious reasons, but ver

glad that you did find us. I hope we can help you cope with your

trials with chronic pancreatitis and offer you our friendship and

support.

With hope and prayers,

Heidi

> Hello everyone this is my first time to post and was wondering

if anyone here that has been dig. with pancreaititis has had the

bacterial overgrowth problems. I have been so sick for a month

now and my doctor has done all kinds of tests and now he put

me on antibotics which seem to be helping a bit. Do any of you

also suffer from this

problem?
