I could only suggest 1. Contesting that data, record, DR's. information and 2. Getting an agreement from your current GI to repeat the test under proper procedures and making the new test part of your record. Likely this will delay your hearing but I would think it better to present solid testing that you totally agree with and are willing to support. Remember, the judges verdict carries a lot of weight now and for the future. Better to present your best case the first time. Guest guest
and all, Most certainly erroneous statements can hurt those who are trying to apply to Social Security! I collected my hospital records this week so I could have everything ready for my application. This was done in less than three days and with a minimum of objections. I took in a release of medical records that I had prepared beforehand for distribution to the hospital and all of my physicians. A copy of this release will soon be added to the files so others can use it if they need to. One of the impairments I am including is insulin dependent diabetes mellitus with proven malabsorption. This can be based on three months of recorded low weight within certain parameters or by several other causes. One of them is a scoring of more than 0.7grams on the fecal fat test. Unknown to me, until I saw the records, my former gastroenterologist ordered that a fecal fat test be done on me during the second day I was in Intensive Care. My stool was collected and specimens sent to an out of state lab for review, and the results came back showing no evidence of malabsorption! It is totally incorrect since it was not performed in the specified manner, and I am livid! The first prerequisite of the fecal fat test is for the patient to eat foods that will equal 100 grams of fat each day for a three day period prior to the test. Stool is collected on the third day and for the three remaining days of the test. Then it is analysed. In my case, three days before any stool was collected, I was sick at home and had not eaten at all. The next day, the 11th, I ate a small breakfast, WITH my enzyme supplements, and promptly threw it up as the intensity of my diabetic ketoacidosis advanced. For the remainder of that day I was in the emergency room, and then Intensive Care, and was not permitted any food or water whatsoever. On day three, I was permitted a small breakfast of scrambled eggs, grits (which I couldn't eat) some toast and cranberry juice, also taken with my enzyme supplements. My stool at this point was diarrhea.....(sorry guys, but you know what an attack is like). That is the only specimen that was collected during the entire time I was in the hospital. How does one get a grossly inaccurate and inproperly performed test score like this stricken from the record? It is important to my application that the correct information be included, and this certainly is not correct. Any advice from someone who's been through a foul up like this would be most appreciated. I am not even a patient of that doctor anymore since I have just begun seeing the new gastroenterologist in Savannah. Any suggestions? With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Based on my personal experience, my work record and recent medical records carried the most weight with the judge. I even had an associate of my GI put an erroneous statement in my medical file 2 months before my court date. Thank God my GI wrote a very specific and strong letter to the judge regarding this potentially harmful statement. I won't go into details but I am sure everyone has had to fight erroneous statements in their files also.
Guest guest
hi Heidi everyone is allowed to " rebut " the information in their chart ! You have just written a very good rebuttal in this message you sent us... you could copy this message without the yahogroups markings and such and include a copy of a reputable site explaining the directions for collecting for a fecal fat...maybe even simply asking the lab nicely to give you a copy of the instructions they hand out when asking a patient to collect a fecal fat sample. It might also help if you get your new doctor to write a letter expalining his understanding of fecal fat collection and then being strong enough to state that your fecal fat samples were collected inappropriately and thus should not be taken into consideration as valid.... Good luck to you... Jeannine
