No expert here or medical professional but lets start here:

Strawberry poop being pink could be the food dye

dark brown chocolate poop seems like the same deal

Smelly poop regardless of color, if a regular thing, as my son's was and

sometimes is post GFCFSF, is cause for concern.

Drs tell you ,iralax is safe for long-term use. My question is, ok, but

why are you satisfied that my kid is constipated like an older person.

My kid is young and should have the bowels of a young person. Since he

or she does not, how about we look into why instead of medicating the

kid long-term. Short-term use to address a known dietary issue is

another story.

Pediasure: ingredients are sugar, salt, water and some dye. The Specific

Carbohydrate diet may have a recipe that is useful for you to make a

similar thing BUT how old is your kid? The recipe involves honey and if

your kid is young that could harm them via botulism. That you have to

look into. I believe the general recommendation is no honey under age 1.

With our kids I am still concerned that that age may be much higher.

Just my thoughts but realize I really am not an expert of any kind. Can

I ask, why pedisure? Is that a short-term thing?

The pedia sure is cause he is dx with failure to thrive. He has been

on it sience his 2nd birthday so that would make it just short of 2

yrs cause he will be 4 in oct. He eats very little and will not drink

milk. With the miralax he eats more than he did. He poop smells bad

but do you think it may be cause of the vitamins in the pedia sure? I

know your not a doc or anything.

While I am not sure " poop professional " is something I want on my

resume....LOL...I do have quite a bit of experience with the other end...as it

were.

Unless you eat the exact same thing every day and at the same time every day

your poop will vary. It is affected by the content of the food you eat. Sounds

like your son's is exactly what he is eating. The smell, texture and color will

vary. When he has a huge poo it is because he is holding it in & gets backed up.

I know that elimination can be a clue when we are searching for answers for

our children. For most people bowel habits are highly variable. Some people poop

3 times a week, some 3 times a day. Some REALLY stink. Others not so bad.

Floating poop is not a primary concern because if you eat enough fiber, it

should float. However, greasy floating poop (an super foul smelling) can be a

sign of a malabsorption problem.

I personally think that miralax is not a good solution over time. Many kids

with global apraxia have low muscle tone in their intestines too and therefore

have poor intestinal motility (VERY SLOW BOWELS) and suffer from chronic

constipation. A laxative can be a good temporary solution but over the long term

it too has potential complications. Check out 's (kiddietalk) archives re:

constipation. Her son Tanner has suffered in the past and I believe they have

discovered some good non-medicinal laxatives (POM juice).

and when he does go he pushs so hard that he vomits and this may be

My DD has been on Miralax and then a german equivalent since last

July. We have been under the care of a gastro doc since January. Our

daughter drank Pedisure everyday because she did not eat that much.

Well, she loved Pedisure and would not eat food knowing she would get

a " shake " . I cut the Pedisure out and gave her miralax in V-8 Fussion

drink in the morning instead of the evening with her Pedisure vanilla

with fiber. V* Fussion is equal to a friut or vegatable. She still

has stinky poops. Her gastro doc said her poop smell due to what she

eats. Certain food make poop smell stronger. I heard this on Oprah

with Dr. Oz too!Our daughter used to get enemas every couple of days

to clean her out, bu now the Gastro doc says not to let her go more

than 3 days without pooping and on the 4th day to give her an enema.

So far we have not given her an enema in 2 months!Dr. also said if

you give your child Pedisure before bed to remember to brush their

teeth.
