Guest guest
Hi, Everyone, I'm new to this list and have a few basic questions. I had an acute attack of pancreatitis in November, and have had symptoms every day since. I was hoping to see some improvement after a biliary and pancreatic sphincterotomy in February (I did have high pressures). I see a real improvement in my energy level, but I continue to have pain particularly after I eat, which if anything is getting worse. I was told 2 weeks ago that this is now chronic pancreatitis. I had a bad time last night. ly, it scared me. I felt like I was teetering on the verge of another major attack. I had a low-fat meal for dinner, but ate quite a bit of chicken breast. The only guidelines I've been given are to stay on a low-fat diet. I'm sorry to ask what must be a repetitive question, but can anyone tell me the best way to eat to live with this? I'm having clear liquids today. Can that include grape juice? I mostly have apple juice and decaf tea with sugar, and even that bothers me. How many grams of fat can you eat during a meal, or is a fat-free diet the goal? What about protein? I'm pretty sure I've read that protein can cause problems. Is that true? Does anyone know the minimum amount of protein that you need to eat? Thanks so much for any info you can give me. Diane Hosek dianehosek@... From my experience and many massages on this board, I conclude we are all different and respond to nutrition in a little different way. I eat small meals, about 6 per day, I do best on high complex carbs, low fat, low protein, I intend to stay well hydrated. I have no guarantees, I still have problems, but I get over them. Your own experience will be the best guide to your most acceptable behavior. Unfortunately, it's the bad experiences that will teach you the best method of behavior. I see an indication of an association with Indy, I have thought for some time there is a high percentage of folks that visit this board are from or still in Indiana. I'm an x-hoosier myself. Cause and effect,? I don't know. In any case, Best wishes, Poncho - GA
