Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the PAI site. I was searching for information on pancreatitis, which I already know to much about, and stumbled, happily, upon it. On April 15 my husband, , will have been deceased for 3 years from an acute pancreatitis attack. He had a few of them, but not often. His cause was hyperlipidemia V. What a shock. Because he had had other attacks we knew exactly what we were dealing with and knew exactly what to expect. I drove him to the local hospital, we live in New Hampshire, at 8 in the morning JUST TO GET THE PAIN UNDER CONTROL. We were going to have him transferred to another hospital later in the day. That never happened. By noon time I believe that he was in some sort of a coma state and at 4:30 he was dead. I am in the process of a suit against the hospital. There were so many signs that he had something going on that wasn't right. The nurse never listened to me when I approached her with them. She just gave me lame excuses to get away from me and was off to another patient. The hospital says that they did everything right, but I know better. When you have done this a time or 2 you know what it's like. He's in pain, they give him meds, put in the NG tube, and take a CT scan to see the progression of the pancreas. Boy did they give him pain meds! He had to ask when they were going to tube him. They never did a CT scan. I am furious. My husband was only 35. I am writing this, mostly to say to all of you suffering and to all of you who are the hand holders like I was. Make sure that all of your medical personnel are listening to you. If you don't feel like they are, yell louder. was being treated by a General Physician whom I told personally that was very sick. His response was " it's only pancreatitis " . Make sure that you are being heard and they are doing what you expect from them. We know what, or practically know what, we should expect when entering an ER. Make sure they listen. couldn't talk for himself and I did the best I could. I should have yelled louder when I wasn't getting the attention I wanted for the concerns I had. Now, that's why I'm sueing them. THEY SHOULD HAVE LISTENED !!!!! Make sure you are heard. NH
Guest guest
Dear , I too am a new member. Reading your letter really scared me! I have been in constant pain for 6 weeks now. I also see a MD. Each time I go in to see him, he tries a different pain medication. Right now he has me on Demerol. The Demerol tablets are 50 mg each and he has me taking 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. In other words, I can take 100 mg every 4 hours (that's alot). I have been beginning to feel like a guinnea pig, so I checked out the Doctor Database and I emailed a dr. at the University of Minnesota (I live in Minnesota) and he thinks I should get in to see him as soon as possible, however, my insurance won't cover it unless I am referred by my MD. Tomorrow (Tuesday) I have an appointment to see my MD and I am taking a print out of the email I received from the dr. at the University, and I am asking for a referrel. I am very sorry about your husband. Thank you for sharing this info., it really seemed to hit home as it seems like no one at our clinic or hospital knows anything about pancreatitis. Please pray that I make it to see this specialist at the University. Again, I am sorry to hear about your husband, and I think you are doing the right thing by sueing the hospital, hopefully it will make more medical people aware of the dangers involved with pancreatitis. Welcome to the club, and if you want to talk, feel free to email me. Hugs, Louise ()
