Heidi,

thanks, yes I've been MIA for about a month. Mainly due to

depression, which i'm finally pulling out of and so I'm

back online. My typical reaction to depression is to stick

my nose in a book and not come out till I need to sleep.

Been doing that for basically the last month (and it was

with more than one book since me and my mother have a huge

collection of books - were plenty to keep me busy). I missed

you all, but I just couldn't get myself to turn on the

computer. I wanted to, but I just couldn't get myself to do

it. I was depressed because it finally hit me that I wasn't

going to be able to go back to work. Every other time I've

been on disability, it was with the knowledge that once I

was better, I'd be going back to work. This time, I'm not

going to be able to do that and it just kinda slid me down

into depression. Thanks for checking in on me though!

Dear Kimber,

While I suspected that your absence may have been caused by

depression, I just wasn't sure because I was going through

much of the same last month myself and seemed to forget many

post, or never read them. It's strange how we turn away from

those activities we care about the most when that beast takes

over. For some, it is easier to hide behind a book and the

solitude of our bed, than it is to face up to the source of our

problems. I am so glad that you were finally able to talk it out,

and work it out with your psychiatric counselor.

We really missed you! Your contributions to the group have been

constant and frequent, both spiritually and educationally, so I

was alarmed when your name stopped appearing every day.

You spoke of your work so often that I felt it would be very difficult

for you once you had to face the hard truth and the reality that you

wouldn't be a part of the work force anymore. I am so sorry, but

feel that with time, you will dedicate yourself to many other

rewarding projects that will take the place of the job you had.

Your lack of a driver's license restricts your mobile

independence, though, so I hope you can get involved with

some outside activities that will fullfill your needs for social

interaction. You're too young and have too much to share with

others to become a hermit! I'm so glad to see you back with us.

With hope and prayers,

Heidi

P.S.

Thanks for your offer of advice on diabetes. I am seeing

improvement every day. My DNE finally switched me to fast

acting Humalog for meals after our appointment yesterday, and

this has already made a distinct improvement in my daytime

BG's. I take Lantus at night for a baseline insulin, and now with

a lower dose, have had my first night without a hypo in three

weeks.

My endo does want me to switch to an insulin pump, we have

already discussed this, but I wanted to get more familiar with the

insulin injections and matching carb to insulin ratios before I

start using a pump. I also wanted to get this pseudocyst surgery

out of the way first! I never did well in track (smile)....it's easier for

me to jump over one hurdle at a time.

Again, Glad to hear you are back and getting better. While you are north of

Oakland, maybe a trip to Lake Merritt and the park, gardens that are there in

downtown Oakland. As I remember, the fusias (sp) are in bloom at this time of

year and if those fine folks have kept the tradition up, it is a most

peaceful and beautiful few hours that is totally free and readily available.

Remember to take a little bread to feed the ducks. You might easily be able

to BART it for most of the trip.

Best Wishes, Poncho - GA

Heidi,

I manage to get out at least once a week. We have pretty

decent public transportation here, so I can get around

pretty well when I want to. So I'm not turning into a

hermit. Once I get my disability, I'll probably look around

for something to do as a volunteer, but right now I don't

want to jepardize my disability case. So I'm not doing

anything that look remotely like work.

I know I missed you guys, but my psychologist really has

been a great help and I'm very glad I've got him. I see him

about every three weeks right now.

I hope you are having help with your depression too. If you

ever need to talk, let me know!
