HR called me IN THE HOSPITAL and told me I was being put on FMLA and to sign the forms they were sending me!!! Needless to say, I was VERY upset! The day I got home from the hospital which was five days later, the Director of HR called and " requested " that my husband bring me to meet with her the VERY NEXT DAY!!! They tried to explain the " benefits " . To me it was a way to " force " me out of my job. Yes, it does " guarantee " your job/benefits - but the key is that it guarentees an " equivilent " job at the same pay. In other words, they were trying to decide if they could replace me and then figure out what to do with me when and if I came back. Needless to say, I was not happy with that, so I prayed and worked hard at getting my health back. The Director of HR wanted me to take off through Jan. (this was the end of Oct 2002). I went back to work Nov. 15 - I SHOWED THEM!!! I was afraid that they would replace me and I would have had to do a crummy job that I would not like.
