Guest guest
Dear , Although I have no experience with the Nissen operation. I have some experience with reflux. I am a mother of a daughter with CF (9yo). I am just a carrier. I did have severe reflux for years (apparently) but I noticed it just at the end of these years. So I had no severe complaints before. I was up for the Nissen surgery, but because of my weight (100 kg) they wanted to wait with it. The successrate was not given, but they were not so keen to do it. I went for a second opinion to another hospital and I am on 2 x 20 mg Pariet (just like Losec) dayly now and I do not have any complaints anymore. Is a surgery necessary on short notice? Could they try medication first? The daughter of a friend of mine, also with CF and 5 years old, had problems with her enzymes. Lots of enzymes and still 72% fatabsorption. She is on Losec for half a year now and her absorption went up to 88%. She had no complaints about the reflux either. Just take your time to consider the possibilities! Guest guest
A fundoplication for someone who is mostly tube fed makes a lot of sense. My daughterhas had one for 5 years .We went and had a study done to see if she has any leaks from her stomach they put her on a rotating table she got turned upside down
Guest guest
Dear , My son Mateo had a nissen done when he was about 6mths., he is now 11mths. He was suffering from GERD. He was on Reglan, Zantac, had thickened feeds, but yet he just could not keep food down. Well, we were told he was maxed out on meds and after doing a pH probe, they decided from his numbers that a nissen would be a good choice for him. At that time, when we were in the hospital, we met some parents who had there daughter there for the 3rd time because of her nissen or " stomach wrap " coming undone. We are actually scheduled to take Mateo in February for a G.I. study to check if his has come undone as well. I dont know the percentages of how well these wraps work or not, all I can tell you is that it definitely stopped his constant vomiting problem, but now it seems he has regained some symptoms of " silent " gerd, so, I dont know what to tell you, but I will keep you informed of what happens with his G.I. study if it will help you..in time that is. Guest guest
Dear Georgianna, I don't know if you read my reply to this post, but, I was interested in knowing more about your child and this dumping syndrome because my son also had the nissen done and we are scheduled for a G.I. study in Feb. because though he had it done about 5mths. ago, he is now having issues again with vomiting. I just wanted to know more about what you have encountered with your child's " wrap " . Thanks... Guest guest
Hi, I have read a couple of posts on this, started throwing up again after almost a year with his nissen. An upper GI was done, and it showed that his nissen slipped, and then after 2 milk scans, the first showing 2 episodes of reflux and the second showing minimal reflux (not quite sure what that means, will find out next Wednesday), I am not sure what the next step is. He is back on 3 reflux meds, so I just dont know. The frustration level is high with this because of the trouble we had at first with wretching because of the inflammation, the belly aches that needed to be vented through his tube. I still wonder if I made the right decision with the nissen, Just my 2 cents worth, have a great day. Take care, , mommy of 4, 3 wcf, a g-tube and his wonderful personality, , 17, Caleb, 7, and ,
