The Vest

I was told by our physical therapist at U OF Iowa Hospitals, that in

order to qualify for the vest the child's chest must measure +23

inches when they take a deep breath. Peyton is almost 3 years old,

but has a very small frame. Although she is getting taller and

gaining weight, we have been stuck at a 19 inch chest for almost a

year now. I read a post from someone that mentioned their daughter

got a vest very young, they had it custom made for her. Do you think

Peyton could qualify for something like this? We have a check-up

scheduled tomorrow and I want to bring up the subject again, but I

don't want them to blow me off and simply say she is still too small.

My daughter was the one who received the vest at 14 months old.

I spoke to a representative at the vest company at our annual cf

parents meeting at the local children's hospital. I was telling her

how much I was looking forward to my daughter being able to wear the

vest when she was older since she won't sit still for treatments. The

representative told me that they working on custom fitting toddlers

and also working on vests for newborns. I contacted the company and

they were very easy to work with. It was only then that I mentioned

the vest to my daughter's doctor. I didn't ask my daughter's doctor

about it, I just asked him if he would write the prescription. My

daughter at 18 months doesn't mind the treatments at all. It is

wonderful how much more time we have since she can use the nebulizer

with the albuterol and pulmozyme as she has on the vest.

Wendi,

My youngest was not quite 2 when she got her first vest. She didn't have any

problems with it. Maybe your not talking to the right person. Who have you

talked to at the University of Iowa? Deb A from Iowa

Hi Wendi, and Sharon,

We are working on a Vest for toddlers and newborns. That will be one of our

new products. We can customize a Vest to fit a smaller child. We have fit

Vests on children as small as 17 inches. It will be no problem. All you

need to do is get a precription from your MD and we'll take ut from there.

If you let me know where you live, I can have your local person contact you

and help you with the process. It is very simple.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
