The dad's comments about his heart breaking into a thousand pieces got me. I

loved at the end her horse back riding.... would have been

coughing!!!!!!!

Rosemary in New York with 3 children with CF - they are 12, 10, 6...I coined

the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT " ; and now we have a dog named - are you ready for

this - TOBI after their medication!

I loved it!! I also cried but more because she was beautiful and

optimistic. I was a little worried going into it that it would be

like the episodes I've seen on ER where they are losing their battle

so this was really wonderful. :) 7th Heaven didn't disappoint.

She probably was Rosemary and they just edited it out so it looked

perfect ;) Don't you wish sometimes we could just edit out the

coughs? Christy N.

AAAWWW how sweet :). hates that show (bad acting, stupid

characters, insipid story lines) but I used to like it and kind of still do. So

I made her watch it with me and she didn't really say anything except

(sarcastically), " OK she's in the hospital for one day on IV's and the next day

she is out riding her horse with no IV line (we don't know, maybe she has a

port--but I didn't point that out) and she isn't coughing at all. " Well this is

true, but they did handle CF better than most TV shows do, probably (DUH)

because the girl who played Katelyn really has CF.

oh well, Its good to see CF getting attention on a popular TV show anyway.

love,

M

Re: Re: 7th heaven

What was really cool im our house is that Milan was all over the place for all

the other story lines but as soon as she so much as heard one of the girl's

voices, she was in front of the TV in a flash as did not move a muscle until the

commercial.

Every time they said CF or Cystic Fibrosis, she would look up and tell me " I

have that. "

I watched the show, and sap that I am, started crying before the show

even started -- all it took was the voice-over talking about the show

being inspired by a true story.

I agree with -- 7th Heaven has " bad acting, stupid characters

and insipid story lines " -- even when it isn't about CF.

I was a disappointed that Reverend Camden's lines sounded like they

were taken straight from a promotional brochure from the CFF. To add

a bit of realism, at least he could have explained to his daughter

just how he happened to know so much about CF.

Aside from the program itself, just out of curiosity -- remember the

hospital scene? Katelyn was hooked to an IV but I don't remember where

the line lead to -- was it into her arm, like a PICC, or higher up,

like a line leading to a port?

And if it was a PICC, I'm wondering if people can still ride horses

with a PICC line in place? Wouldn't using the reigns tug your arm and

possibly compromise a PICC line?

has only had a PICC once (knock wood), and they told him no

heavy lifting or anything that might tug the arm while the line was in

place.

Any CF equestrians out there that can answer this?

It didn't bother me that she was only in-patient a couple days; I know

some people get PICCs put in on an out-patient basis, then have a home

care nurse come draw blood to check peak and trough levels to take

back to the lab.

And it didn't bother me that she wasn't coughing while riding the

horse or in the hospital because lots of people with CF don't cough

all the time...

But did you see the dust flying when Kately and -- what's that

youngest Camden girl's name? -- got on the horses at the beginning of

the show? I thought that sudden wind and flying dust was surely the

foreshadowing that Katelyn would land in the hospital. But when Rev.

Camden called to see if his daughter could visit Kately in the

hospital, we learn that this was basicall tune-up time.

--- Well, I think any thing that will help people be more aware of

CF helps. You know, some people that I have told about Amber having

CF, say (what is CF). So even if this got to a few people, its

better then none.

i also enjoyed the show. As for the coughing from the dust and stuff

at the stables. My dd that does not have cf rides and we take our 3

yr old ds that has cf with us all the time. He has had no problems.

He doesn't cough while we are there or once we get home. He goes in

the barns, runs all over the place and plays in the dirt. We havew

also taken him to a couple of horse shows. He loves being around all

the animals and dirt. He also goes to my moms who lives on 26 acres

and has 7-8 horses and it hasn't bothered him yet. My sister went to

school with a boy that has cf and he rode horse and did barrel

racing. He coughed but my sister says he is a great rider. My mom

has seen him at a couple of fairs. He rides wonderfully. I just a

post my experience with horseback riding and cf.

I also cried, watching it in the hospital while your child is getting i.v.s

and chest p.t. makes you cry at everything, especially if it's CF related.

told me to stop or she was going to change the channel because I

was embarrassing her. Teenagers (LOL)!

---My daughter Amber w/cf also rides, we have two horses of our own.

She does have problems sometimes if the Arena is dusty or if she is

in a stall too long. But her doctor said, she has to live a normal

life and have fun. If she gets to coughing to much we just stop. We

go to fair every yr and she shows her horses, they keep the stalls

pretty clean. The riding seems to help loosen things up, and I

always make her come home after a long ride and do her flutter. I

see it as therapy, kind of like the vest.
