Guest guest
, On the news tonight it seems every state has a fire burning. Next week there will be floods, hail etc. I think the smell of the smoke would be the worst. Is it making it harder for Sian to breathe? What is the weather outlook like? Its 40c/105f tomorrow again and with Melb. being hot also that's a worry as we share power (don't understand the exact amounts). I agree with the private schools being great. Ours is marvellous. We just told them that Eilish needed this and that and there were no problems. When I read how some people have to get special permission for enzymes to be allowed in the class I cant believe the red tape. Eilish teacher keeps them on top of her table and Eilish goes up there at food times and gets them. She takes them at her table and no one bats an eyelid. So yes for us its worth it. And thankfully its right across the road. We are lucky to get in actually. You need to put your child's name down when you are still pregnant. So it has to be put down as baby x baxter . It felt funny doing that but it had to be done. Anyway, I hope your still safe when we chat tomorrow. Re: 1st sleepover MEGAN Welcome to smoky Canberra! The fires are about 3km or so away from our place at the moment - once again we have no sky, just smoke. The pool has a ring of ash & burnt leaves around the edges - gross! It's going to be around 38oC/102oF here today, and the wind is terrible. The sun is trying to shine through the smoke, so the world is this creepy orange shade.... We are not officially on evacuation alert yet. At 3km away, the fire would have to cross a valley and a river and other hill before it came into the valley we live in. I'm sure that there are a pile of farmers in the valley over from me fighting to save houses and stock. It's a truly sobering feeling. I'm keeping Sian inside as much as possible today. Mind you, my evaporative air cooler works best with open doors & windows, so the house still has that smoky feel to it. There's an official health alert out for asthmatics/people with respiratory illness. asked about schools. Yes, my girls go to a private school. I find the private system caters for our somewhat challenging requirements a little better than the government ones. Guest guest
Well, it's been interesting here in Canberra over the last 24 hours. There are around 400 homes burnt out (destroyed), at least two people dead, scores injured. There are so many people without power or running water. We (thankfully) have power, water, and no damage to our house. From our roof yesterday afternoon we could see flames over 30 feet high. The fires were less than a kilometre away. I let Sian out of the house for 10 minutes yesterday with a mask on. She is coughing more than usual today, so I am monitoring her carefully. Guest guest
, Can you send Sian to a relatives house? That would be my main worry. AS I was typing to you last night I heard on the radio about 360 homes burnt out and 2 people dead. I didn't mention it just incase it was media beat up and got you more worried. Please take care of yourselves. Your all more important than any house, as much as we all love our homes. It was 36.c/101f here this morning at 9.30am and although we have ducted and its going full blast its still so hot. The news has just said that the states can't afford to send the CFS to other states like usual as all our weather is to dangerous at the moment. I am sitting her making everyone milkshakes. Eilish has had three today (great for adding lots of calories). ALso teaching them how to make paper planes. Not much else to do. Stay cool and safe Re: MEGAN Well, it's been interesting here in Canberra over the last 24 hours. There are around 400 homes burnt out (destroyed), at least two people dead, scores injured.
