Does anyone have any hard facts reagarding woodstoves and CF

patients. I am considering installing a woodstove to heat our house

to save money for future medical needs, but I don't want to compound

the existing symptoms of CF. The stove that I am looking at has yet

to be purchased, and I will more than willing to look at some sort of

air filtration system.

As it stands right now, I have noticed quite and improvment in

breathing when a HEPA filter is running in the room where the CF

patient sleeps. There seems to be less hacking in the morning and

less wheezing at night. Comments are welcome.

Cheers!

Below is a link to the information about wood stoves that you

requested. I have copied a paragraph from the web site below that

sums up the answer. Of course, this is not about people with cf, but

healthy people. My guess is that those with cf would be affected

somewhat more adversely, since they have a harder time clearing their

lungs.

It appears that your medical costs may increase substantially if you

do add the wood heat.

Many recent studies have also found significant effects in woodstove

users in developed countries such as the US. Children living in such

homes tend to have increased respiratory symptoms, acute lower

respiratory infection, increased frequency and severity of wheeze,

increased frequency of cough and waking up at night with a cough.
