Guest guest
I found a page that said hepatic steatosis is secondary to lactic acidosis, but it was related to HIV/AIDS as you mentioned (retroviral therapy used to treat HIV/AIDS causes mitochondrial damage, hence the link). However, this might be more interesting to you: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT00068094 Perhaps you should start taking some acidophilus etc.? My liver is good, but I have high blood ammonia, which is usually associated with a bad liver (my local doctors can't figure it out, other than " you have mito, who knows? " ). Might be all part of the same picture. Many systems can be affected by mito, I'm not sure if I've heard of a body system that can't be affected... Guest guest
I've had elevated liver enzymes for years. I had a liver biopsy done last november and everything was fine. The enzymes are still elevated, so now they think it's from the muscle breaking down.I hope the specailst can give you some answers. I know I've read somewhere that the liver can be effected in Mito. Guest guest
I am not sure how mito affects the liver in some people or whether your particular problems are mito related, but it definitely is one of the organs that can be involved. A number of children with mito have liver problems. You might try the United Mitochondrial Disease website for a list of all the systems that can be affected by mito (which, like someone said, really is all of them). www.umdf.org Sorry you have to deal with all this too. Guest guest
Hi , I am so sorry to hear this. Are you on TPN? I have heard that TPN causes liver problems. You are not the first person to say that they don't drink alcohol but have liver disease. Good luck with your appointment with the specialist next week. And know that you are in my thoughts and in my prayers. Hang in there !!! We are here for you if you need us, whether to vent, scream, cry, or for support. Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with liver disease. Liver disease can be a mito thing. My uncle was found to have it when he died of pancreatitis. In looking back, we think it was probably mito related. Of course, back then, they had no clue about anything called mito. You might want to have your mito doc review your meds and supplements. Liver disease in mito can happen due to some of these. This is why cerrtain drugs like Depakote aren't used. What might be a liver irritant in " normal " people can be much worse for us. Do the doctor's think this is the reason for your high white blood count? My prayers are with you, keep me informed(I am having a lot of eye trouble so don't go on line as much, but will eventually catch up...LOL).
