Guest guest
I love listening to everyone else's videos of their kids talking, so I thought I'd share a long one I just did of my daughter. She was diagnosed with " probable verbal apraxia " at almost 2 years one month. We had started the fish oils right around her 2nd birthday. When we had her evaluated a month later she had made vast improvements with her sounds, but still only had like 5 or 6 word sounds (like mama, dada, nana, etc). In just the 4 months since then she's like a completely different child. We started the fish oil at 2 yrs, then started the baby babble video, and then speech therapy 2x a week private, and then the baby bumblebee videos. She's also in EI group session 1x a week, but they really don't provide much therapy. She'll repeat anything now, and just in the last month has started saying things without us talking about them first with very independent thought. She'll say 5 word sentences regularly, and whole paragraphs. Her pronounciation is still a little bad, but it's improving fast too. She kept saying Bu-me and mu-me instead of bunny and money, but now she can say them. We just switched to a new speech therapist 1x a week who seems much more knowledgable about apraxia. She said she's not even sure if she has Apraxia now, although our old speech therapist said she would still say she has mild verbal apraxia. I contribute it greatly to the fish oil and vitamin E. I know we're very lucky as far as Apraxia goes to have such a mild case, but I wanted to share because when she was practically non-verbal at 2, and couldn't blow bubbles or do anything at all resembling a o shape with her mouth, I thought it would be at least a year (or 3) before she was this far along! Also she never really babbled, and when she finally started just before turning 2 it was a " eh eh huh eh huh uh " with lots of inflection (? up down in her voice), but no real letter or word sounds. She's also had Sensory issues and problems with social skills, but those are also greatly improved. That with her chronic constipation make me know that it is Apraxia and not just something she grew out of. Too much in common with others with Apraxia. Here's the video, it's on Jan 14th (and 15th), 2007, but it should be at the top for another week until I upload more videos. It's really long, I got carried away, so they cut it off after 5 minutes. I'm in the process of uploading a 2nd one which has most of the talking on it. You can also look back and older ones from like August if you want to see how much improvement she's made (although we didn't do as many videotapes because there wasn't much to put on them verbally. (she's 2 yrs 5 months, and a week old) www.dropshots.com/CrystalAm btw, we're giving one proEFA and one CLO, 2x a day, and 200IU high gamma E in the morning, and 400IU high gamma E in the evening. We had added the proEPA for a while but it didn't seem to make much difference, like the Omega's and E did. I know the CLO isn't really recommended because of the risk of overdosing on the A and D, which is why I split it between the two, and it doesn't have as high EPA, so I'm not recommending it necessarily. Crystal (sorry this went on so long!)
