Guest guest
Graces surgery(posterior release) was April 22nd. I must say that I went in expecting it to be a huge ordeal and was pleasantly surprised at my amazing daughters ability to cope. She went in smiling, chatting and laughing with the Drs.........and did wake up screaming and unconsolable (probably from fear as she kept saying take it out referring to the IV). This however quickly changed to uncontrollable laughter once a Nemo sticker was applied to the tip of my nose and I began chanting " help....I can't see " . She came out with one full leg cast and one short leg cast. The first night I think she had one dose of morphine and by the next morning she was wanting to crawl. Dr Frick came and said we were ready to go home. Less than 24 hours from surgery we were already home and Grace had taken her last dose of pain medicine by noon that day (regular tylenol) This was against her wishes; I thought it best just in case. Surgery was Friday at about 1:30Pm and I think it was on Sunday she stood a little on the cast........Monday or Tuesday she began walking around.........very funny sight because she had one full leg cast bent at the knee and one short cast and on hard wood floors. By the end of that week she was hauling arse around the house. It sounded like we had a little pirate pegging around. Yesterday we went in for a checkup/cast change. Grace was in the casts almost 4 weeks. Dr Frick was planning on putting her in for 3 more weeks however decided she was healed well and since she was running around so much I am guessing the casts were a no go. Today she is limping short distances. Everything looks awesome though. She finally has no big crease above her heel and the back of her foot touches the floor flat now. I have lots of pictures if anyone is curious or is facing the surgery and would like to know more of what to expect. I also have a question. Dr Frick wants Grace to go into the s. She has been in the Markells all this time. I have a prescription for the shoes, but how do I go about ordering them and how do I file the insurance if I cant get the shoes from anyone around here? Do I just contact the guy that makes them and does he file the insurance? Could someone please enlighten me about this. Thanks in advance!
