Ann,

I have bilateral ptosis. I have had three surgeries on both eyes. The

first two were traditional " tucks " in the muscle. After my mito diagnosis, I

had

a " sling " implant into both eyelids. This will allow the sling to be

tightened easily for both eyes as the ptosis worsens. There is a tiny incision

over each eyebrow that provides access to the sling as needed. It is tightened

to the extend the eyelid needs to be lifted.

From comments from others in the list you note that ptosis is variable with

day, time, stress and individual. See the ophthalmologist and discuss

surgical options. Initial " sling " implant would have made subsequent surgeries

easier. With a mitochondrial disease, it will worsen over time and needs to be

monitored and eyelid function modified as needed.
