Guest guest
hi all, i haven't been around for forever. brief " re " -intro: kelby is now 3 1/2, we are in florida, flew to see dr. p when kelby was 12 days old. stayed in iowa for all castings & tenotomy, did dbb 23 hours for 3 months, then 12 - 14 hours. he is wearing his brace now for about 10 - 11 hours...when he keeps it on, hence, my problem. he has been able to remove his brace for a long time but lately he has been taking it off almost every night. we have been shooting for the 4 year mark before taking them away, but don't know if he'll make it that long. he doesn't take them off every night, but probably 3 - 4 times a week. anyone else going thru this? i've tried telling him that when he's four he the doctor said he doesn't have to wear them anymore, sometimes that does the trick, other times it doesn't. would love & appreciate any advice from the BTDT parents. thank you, Tia Kelby 8-3-01 bilateral Dr. Ponseti baby
Guest guest
HI Tia, Of course we remember you & Kelby! We're happy to see you guys are still doing well. With your question about keeping the bar on-- do you think he is uncomfortable in it? ie. bar is not too short and his feet are totally corrected, not relapsing....If not then you could resort to duct taping over the laces and around the bottom of the shoe every night (after explaining why you are doing this) or lace them up from top to bottom. Or both LOL! You could also give him incentives for keeping it on-- he gets to watch a fav tv show or eat a special treat (if he takes it off, no tv at all!). Seriously, I would try to keep it on for as long as you guys can muster-- this from parents who took it off too soon with Dr. P's blessing and had to have the ATTT surgery for a relapse. You never know when he will be going through a growth spurt and that FAB could be all that is between him and a relapse. Emma 18-10-99.
