Guest guest
, I'm sorry, I have no advice for you, but I just wanted to let you know I'm feeling for you & Becky. I hope everything turns out okay. Try not to stress too much. It's amazing what we can cope with & hide from our kids as parents. As nervous as we may be, always putting on a happy face for them! :-) Not that this compares, but it reminds of the plane ride we just took--my first trip in a plane since I was 6--we had some turbulence on the way home, but I was so determined not to show my kids I was nervous I sat and colored the whole time with my 2 yr. old, even though I was DYING inside! He thought it was just GREAT!! So be strong! Tell her about the great balloons and stuffed animals she's going to get! And we're here for you! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 16-18/7 > > I am just found out on Monday that Becky is going to be needing the > ATTT. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry that Becky has to go through this. Dr. Morcuende performed the ATTT on our daughter Emma in November of 2003 when she was 4. They will allow you to hold Becky when they put her under which was a real comfort (it was for both Emma and I). To answer your questions: 1. Giving her alot more attention than usual will help as she adjusts to being restricted. We also took Emma to alot of places that she liked. She loves animals and bugs so we made frequent visits to pet stores, local animal sanctuary, and insectarium. We also bought all sorts of craft making stuff and spent hours making necklaces, gluing things, etc. 2. We put a small stool on the car floor but a box would be just as good. 3. Some kids walk on them a few days after the surgery. Emma wasn't that adventurous and scooted on her bum. 4. We sent videos every 4 - 6 months, including one today. 5. We found it ok to get around in a stroller but Emma enjoyed a wheelchair whenever we could get one. Overall it was more comfortable for her. In Iowa they will want to put some sort of rubber taping on the inside part of the casts closest to the groin. It's done to prevent urine from reaching the casts but we wished they hadn't used it. It ended up causing a rash on Emma's thighs because it caused the skin to sweat more easily and chafe. It also ends up smelling. And there was never a problem with urine reaching the casts, we just made sure that Emma sat the right way on the toilet. How are Becky's feet now? Dan A few q's for those kids that have had the ATTT I am just found out on Monday that Becky is going to be needing the ATTT. We are going to have it done in Iowa with Dr.Morocunde in July and I have a few questions..... 1. How is it with an older one in casts? 2. Car seats.... Any particular ones better than another? Guest guest
Dan, Well her feet are pretty good now.... it is just the tendon problem all other parts of the deformity are corrected. They said as long as she keeps wearing her FAB that they won't need to put her in casts before surgery. Becky just started potty training a few mos ago..... I am worried about that being a problem. Did Emma need any sort of PT after the casts came off? ANd were they fiberglass or plaster casts? Becky had plaster casts at about 1 1/2 and she managed to crack them at the ankles and the knees, so I am hoping that these will be a little stronger since she is a little more adventurous and daring now LOL Did you all go home after the surgery or did you stay in Iowa the whole 6 weeks? We are thinking of staying.... as this parranoid mom is afraid that we will get back to California and there will be a problem. Sorry for so many questions.... I really just don't know how we are going to handle this. The insurance is the biggest issue as we have none and the cost of the surgery is so high. At least I have some time to get everything lined up. THanks! > Hi , > > Sorry that Becky has to go through this.
