My understanding is that we need to take it sublingually (dissolving under the tongue) to have it absorbed into our blood stream. Good luck! Guest guest
, From what I understand some people don't absorb the sublingually either and have to do the shots, but if this is the case they will teach you how to give them to yourself to home. Now that I have started to take my new arthritis med I had to learn how to give myself a shot and it isn't bad at all, I barely even feel it! Hopefully though you will find out that your levels are perfect and you don't have to do either! Axelrod Re: ??? ABOUT BLOOD TESTS/B12 I think you are right.. Guest guest
Just ask your surgeon if he/she will give you a Rx for the B12 and the needles. I asked mine (because he is 5 hours away) and my PCP was charging almost $30 dollars for 1 shot. I paid about $8.00 at the most for the bottle of B12 and $3 -4 dollars for the needles. I give them to myself or my husband does it for me. I was doing the sublinguals until I talked to some people in my support group and most were doing the shots. It's totally up to you and your surgeon. I don't think my levels are out of whack - they never have been since surgery but my question was what are OB doctors doing during your pregnancy - are they checking these levels at all along the way? and if they are then how often. Guest guest
Hi, I asked my OB to run a full panel so we could so if I was low on my B12, iron, Calcium, etc. and she told me she would not know what to look for, and she would rather my surgeon do these. I have to say I'm only 10 months out of surgery and 33 weeks preagnant, so obviously I need to be on top of this specially since I haven't gained any weight. Luckily my surgeon is a saint and he has been seeing me every month or more when needed. Last time we checked (last week) I was low on calcium, B12, and iron, all of which means I'm anemic and I need extra B12 and iron shots. I think it is better to run on the overly cautious side than to no be on top of it, but that's my surgeon's and my opinion. I hope this helps. Best of Luck, Nydianne
