Guest guest
Hello, To follow up on some of the discussion about nutrition and health related curriculum targeting farmworkers, I wanted to put out the word to see if anyone else had additional recommendations on nutrition curricula they have seen used successfully with farmworkers. I work with the California Institute for Rural Studies, and we are currently in the process of finishing up an assessment of farmworker food security in Fresno County, CA. This spring and summer, we will be doing follow-up nutrition education workshops with farmworkers in some of the same areas where the survey was conducted. We are looking for any recommendations you might have on Spanish language nutrition curricula, or ways to promote increased access to food assistance, that have been used successfully with farmworkers. This could include actual lesson plans, handouts, fotonovelas, etc. In addition, if you have heard of or had experience doing educational outreach with farmworkers and have any suggestions on effective locations or workshop styles, we would love to hear them. We are currently working on developing lunch time lessons to be presented on-farm. Does anyone have any experience with on-farm education programs? For more information on the farmworker food security assessment, please see: http://www.cirsinc.org/Current_Research_Projects.html Thanks! Guest guest
Hello, Sorry for the delay in responding to your question regarding on-farm education programs. Camp Health Aide Programs in MI, IL and FL have recruited and supported farmworkers who have done most of their education at work, either during lunch breaks, on the bus, or even while working. If you'd like more information, please let me know. Thank you, Tori Booker, MSW, MPH Associate Director Migrant Health Promotion 224 W.
