Guest guest
Jen, just a quick question to ask...did Addie have a tenomoty performed and/or does she have good dorsiflexion? Guest guest
If you send a photo through the photo group it would be helpful. How many straps does the AFO have across it? How tall is the foam front padding? Is there grippy stuff on the inside bottom of the AFO? Have you contacted the orthist to see if he could make some improvements to help? My daughter was in AFO's for a short time and they were able to do a bunch of different things at the orthist to keep her foot in them. Guest guest
- I posted photos of Addie's AFOs in the photo group under " Addie " . I have not contacted the orthotist yet- wanted to get feedback from group first to see if others have had this trouble. There are 3 velcro straps, only the top one has foam padding. The AFO's have a rubbery inner boot that goes on first to help grip- I think? Anyway- please look at the photos and tell me what you think. Guest guest
Daiga, Addie had tenotomy done twice- one with non-Ponsetti Dr. and one with Dr. Dobbs. I do believe she has good dorsiflexion. I do range of motion with her 4x per day. She doesn't feel really tight- but then again, I really have nothing else to compare with. Guest guest
I didn't find a file called Addie but I did find some other photos in the Dr Dobbs brace section. Those are a bit different then the AFO's we had since we didn't have the inner boot. Do you put the AFO's on first then attach them to the bar? That might help to make sure you are getting a really good fit in the AFO's.
Guest guest
Jen, We had this problem too. We are now using the Markell shoes w/ the Dobbs Brace and I have to say his feet stay in the shoes without any problems. The slipping was one of the reasons we switched. I did like the AFO style because I think it was more comfortable for him especially while his feet were tiny, smushy baby feet. Now that his feet have grown and are more solid, the Markells are working just fine for us. Now, here are my questions and suggestions: 1. Is her heel coming up out of the inner plastic " bootie " or is this inner piece coming up too? 2. I would definitely talk to both Dave (the orthotist) and Dr. Dobbs (mattdobbs@...). They will definitely work with you to find a solution. I think they have different types of straps (I see Addie's are quite wide, we had 1 wide strap and 3 narrow straps.) they could try. 3. What suggested about pressing down on the foot and tightening that middle strap very tight is perfect. This is very important. Hope this helps! Guest guest
& , For the past 2 days I have been doing everything I can to get Addie's heel down in the inner bootie in the correct position and get the AFO middle strap snug down as tight as I can get it. Her foot looks great right after I get them on. (I have a line marked where the end of her toes should be if she is in all the way.) But- she still continues to slip up in them. The inner boot stays in fine- just the heel slips up and back. I do notice the R foot staying in position better then the L. It seems like I have to re-do the L one every time I check it! I know that I am able to get the foot in position correctly and get it secured. It just won't stay that way! I will need to talk to the orthotist this week and see if he can help me solve this problem. Of course this will be one of the most difficult weeks for me to get off work to go in and have them adjusted! I was so hoping I wouldn't have to go back to Children's until her next appt. Do you know Dave's contact info?? I know he gave me his card at our last appt. and I can't find it anywhere. If you don't have it I will just call Dobb's office or email him. Also - At what point did you switch Sammy from the AFO's to the Markells? Is it common for patients in the Dobbs Brace to switch over to the Markells? It sounds like you prefer the Markells much better than the AFO's- Thanks for all your help!
